Would I be happy to take the Hobie up to Neah Bay?  Is it exposed, protected, what?

ANybody fish there in the kayak  for kings with good results?  Where to put in?  Where to fish?   Never been to NB, heading to the Strait tomorrow, will stop at Freshwater bay.

Doable but lots of great fishing water much closer. Freshwater Bay is a great put it and you're fishing within a short pedal.

Neah Bay has been unusual this season with the number of kings inside the Strait.  The catch rates have been high enough that the 2 fish limit on kings changes to 1 tomorrow.

For launches there are rough ones but Snow Creek is probably the easiest launch.  The weather has pretty crapped out at Neah Bay right now though.

1 fish limit only in area 4, or 5 and 6 too??

one fish chinook limit in area 4 starting tomorrow to conserve quota.  has no impact on area 5 and 6.  area 4 will still have a 2 salmon limit, but only one may be a chinook.

in area 4 you can keep an unmarked king.  you cannot do the same in areas 5 or 6.

neah bay has been the best port for kings this summer and moving to a one fish chinook limit insures that the season will remain open into august.  if you look at the online creel surveys you will see that neah bay has been catching more of their quota than any other port.

Just got back from Neah Bay last night.  Fished out the east side of the bay all day yesterday due to the weather. Saturday did the Hobuck to Tatoosh Island run but the weather went downhill on Saturday afternoon.   I usually fish the 'wild side' off Hobuck, its about the best fishing anywhere but requires a lot of attention to the details.  Even with all the work on Saturday (12 hrs in yak) I got skunked on Salmon but managed a decent Ling and some CR on big rockfish.  Can usually load up the ice chest, but it wasn't the weekend for it.

Yesterday I gave up on salmon after hour 5, and had some fun fishing the kelp around the entrance to the bay in the afternoon.  Most boats are fishing just outside the bay to the east, but I didn't see anyone landing Salmon yesterday.  It was a case of 'you shudda been here yesterday' when I talked to a few of them.  Maybe Monday it will be better.  Its very protected from west and northwest weather.  The swell was big Saturday and Sunday, and there was a constant wind from the west that built in on Saturday afternoon and kept going thru the night.  Sunday afternoon cleared out and the sun came out.  When the sun is shining on NB there is no better place to be for a kayak fishermen.  Enjoy!
