Thanks Mark, you reminded me.  #5, opened package of roast beef, smelled, tried to eat without smelling, hurtled some more.

Arkopharma Traveller Stick Roll-On Ingredients:  The combination of 100% pure and natural essential oils of Peppermint, Ginger and Geranium, and of 100% pure and natural essences of citrus fruits (orange and lemon) has a reviving fragrance which provides a sensation of freshness.

MotionEaze Ingredients:  They are a special formulation of Lavender, Peppermint, Frankincense, Chamomile, Myrrh, Ylang-Ylang and Birch.

Scopolamine patch:  ahh ... Scopolamine

Dramamine original:  Dimenhydrinate (50 mg) (antiemetic)

Bonine:  Meclizine HCl (25mg)

Benadryl:  Diphenhydramine HCl (25 mg) (Antihistamine)

Personally, I'm a pharmaceutical sort of guy.  In the far past I've used transdermal scop, dramamine, and bonine (generic).  They all worked well.  The scop gave me cottonmouth, but otherwise no issues.  IIRC Dramamine made me stupid, but it could have been something else.  I don't remember the Bonine experience.   I don't need them anymore on the water or in the air, though I do carry candied ginger.  All one can do is try them all and see what works.  I'd start with the strongest, then work backwards to the essential oils.  If one or more of the real drugs works you can always carry it as a backup when trying the lesser stuff.

Even reading this has made me sick.
Kayak fishing?  I have no clue, but I'm doing it.

Once motion sickness starts it is difficult to stop unless conditions lessen.

The only cure for seasickness, once the symptoms set in is FEAR.
See a really big fin, get harrassed by a stellar sealion or find a jack-in-the-box whale and you'll be fine.   :o

-Spot-
There is one more cure.....a large salmon on the end of the line! Had my brother out at Swiftsure last month and he was green until I handed him a rod with a 21 lber on the end of it...tuned him right up!

Mark knows. After a sweet technicolor yawn on my part he saw me come right back when I picked up a rod that got hit. Although I was out of turn. :P Sorry guys!!

I went outof DB this weekend with.Sherminator, Jimdawg and Newguy, found out that I can/will get seasick. After looking through this thread it sounds like Dramamine and candied ginger are popular options.
For the ginger, is it recommended to eat some prior to launching and small bits while out? Also, where does one find candied ginger? Is it in the bulk food area or should I check out Whole Foods?

Hey YG, don't let it get you down, you have lots of options. If you take Dramamine before bedtime and get some in your system it makes the drowsiness effect less intense the next day. Two before bed, two before a light non-greasy breakfast, and two more after you start fishing, should knock the queasy down. If Dramamine doesn't work, try Bonine. If those OTC options don't work, get a prescription for Scopalamine, it works well, but has more side effects.

Thanks ling banger. Getting sick wasnt fun, but it happens. The worst part was not enjoying a day on the salt and heading in early.

I seem to get the most woozy after it's all over. I'm good out on the water but after I get home, put all my gear away and sit down on the couch, the world starts rocking.
Anybody else experience this? Does Dramamine help in this situation? If so, would I need to take it before I go out, after, both?
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

This is what it looks like

I should change my name to C_Sick. We went on a boat for the south coast halibut closer. It was like a scene from Deadliest Catch or maybe The Perfect Storm. I can tell you those little prescription ear patches are only good up to a point. At least, with the assistance of tougher people on the boat, I came home with a fish although for about six hours I wished I was dead.

I get this a little but I like it. It's like being rocked to sleep : I usually so exhausted I just pass out anyway.

Hey YG. Everyone seems to have a different routine that works for them. I will get violently seasick without meds. I go the dramamine route. I take one pill an hour before launch and then take two pills when I actually launch. After that I continue to eat while on the water. I seem to have a fast metabolism and I feel a lot better if I always have something in my stomach. I will continue to eat a cliff bar whenever I'm hungry, which is usually every hour or two. Then I watch the clock and take two more pills 5-6 hours later, if I'm still on the water.

It usually takes until I wake up the next morning before the rocking motion seems to stop.

One thing that I think helped me keep my cookies down last year when I went on a hali charter was Tums.  That, along with Bonine, and no coffee seemed to make all the difference.

On the yak I've taken to chewing the Sea Band ginger gum.  Normally I hate gum, but that stuff knocks down the queasy feelings if I start chewing it (or replace the old with new) at the first sign of naseua.
