More of a recreational paddle with the wife than a fishing trip - I owe her a trip out on her half of the yak - but I will bring a rod along. Wave or say hi on channel 69 if you are in the area.

Whatcha trollin' for out there?  Putting in at the park or the bridge?  SLF and I may be hitting a bay this weekend.  Not sure which one...

Low tide is ~ 8:30am. I hope to get on the water about 10;00am, so we'll put in at the park and wander upstream, and catch the outgoing on the way back. Anyway, that is my thinking now. I'll probably just trail a spinner and see if anything feels like hitting it. Like I said, not really a fishing outing. The wife likes her exercise, so we'll be trolling at 3.5 mph - have to hope a tuna gets lost and makes it way there  ;D

That's always a fun paddle.  Will let ya know if we make it up there.  May do a crazy Tillamook slough circumnavigation.  We'll see...

This has always been a good weekend for summer chinooks and I am going to try to fish it both days.

No fish, and only saw a couple of boats who were fishing. Everybody was crabbing. Don't think too many people were real successful, but they sure were having fun. It was a beautiful day (after a drizzly morning) to be on the water. The wife and I got in 13+ miles of exercise. We went from NBSP boat launch to the upstream end of the north jetty, then up to Nehalem and back. Definitely need to do something about the stock Hobie seat bottoms! The burgers & beers at the end of the day sure tasted good.

How was the wind? We were tide riding at Netarts, and the wind got pretty gusty toward mid-afternoon.  Lots of crabbers there, too.  Saw a few free divers near the rocks.  Seems as though they were just out for a tour, but they got me thinking...might be fun to do some underwater exploring in that bay.  Anyway, glad you enjoyed Nehalem; it really is a special place.

The wind picked up about 3:00, which was just before the tide changed. It was probably between 5 and 10 knots. We were up at Nehalem then. The channel markers were still leaning a little upstream, but just barely, when we headed downstream. By the time we got to Wheeler, the wind was in our face, but the channel markers were leaning downstream, so I figure the wind & current were about canceling each other out. I gotta admit the stretch from the 101 bridge back to the launch was not really enjoyable, but it didn't ruin the day or anything. We'll definitely go back again.

Always fun to put in upriver at Foss, and do a shuttled trip to the state park.  If the tide is high enough, you can take some narrow backwater channels for most of the bay proper.
