Went up to lost lake yesterday. The one up by the nehalem river. I hooked a good size steelhead but he managed to run toward the kayak got some slack and spit the hook. But half hour later i got hooked and landed a 11'' trout..

Nice tout.  Too bad on the steelhead.  Last time I was up there.  We got zilch.  As we were loading up the yaks, a big steelhead decided to do tail walks back and forth in front of the launch. I think I saw him giving us the finger.

That same damn fish has done that to me three times in one day! I need to eat him!

Nice work on your first fish! It looks like a nice cuttie. What did you get the steelhead on? I haven't figured how to get them to bite anything. Lost Lake is where I got my first yak fish too!

  Hey Slashyak,
I like the way you've got that Emotion rigged out.Looks like a sweet unit.
Do you take it out in salt ?
I have taken my sink out numerous times .But you have to pick your days.
Plus ,I'm a minimulist(sp) when it comes to gear so mine doesn't look near as pretty.

OOps..just noticed that was your 1st fish....congradulations.There should be a lot more to come.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Tanks you guys. It was a lot of fun. I got the steelhead to bite on a green and yellow buzz bait. He had been swimming around smacking the surface of the water. And thanks about the kayak it worked out well to bring the fish in and remove the hook and all. No I haven't taken it out in the salt. I like in north Portland. I have only went on lakes and the rivers.

You might want to think about how you would re-enter the sink in the salt. Cool boat though!

I was thinking of adding some adjustable outriggers for hitting the ocean. I have been on the columbia and felt plenty comfortable in it. But I'm not sure about the ocean.

How long is your sink? Jgrady tried that and it did not turn out very well. The other thing is, if you did have the outriggers and it flipped over, could you turn it over again and get back inside? How would you get the water out first? If you haven't already tried to get back into a SINK that's filled with water, it's pretty close to impossible to keep it from rolling over again. Also, even on a calm day on the ocean the wind can kick up and cause some really nasty wind waves, far worst than what you've seen on the Columbia. I think most here will agree that you will be far better off looking for an ocean capable SOT than trying to rig you SINK to get out there. You can sometimes find them for 300-500 bucks on craigslist. Actually, I've got a Tarpon 120 I'd consider letting you use in the Ocean some time, provided you can convince me you're ready. PM me if you're interested and we can chat about it more.

Yeah that's exatcly what I was thinking. I think I will just keep it to the lakes and rivers. The outriggers would be cool tho to be able to stand up and paddle it as a paddle board.
