While we're on topic, what are some good colors for fall chinook and coho? I'd like up try fishing these this year.

For Coho any color as long as it's Orange!

For Chinook, green is good but i caught one on orange

Coosbayer are you running these on a spreader with a drop weight while trolling or mainlining?

I targeit Coho when using warts and  i just mainline them and haul ass! Coho like it fast!. If i were to actually target Chinook using a wart i would probably use a spreader and a weight to get it to the bottom.

Wiggle warts are one of my favorite baits to fish!  I just love that thumping action.  Also serves as a salad-on-hook indicator so you know when to reel up and clean.  I've had most success with fire tiger pattern, but because I like it so much I haven't really given other colors their fair due.

I've heard of people fishing them in the saltwater, even tried it myself, but never had any (or heard of) success.  It's pretty much a river bait AFAIK.

I am also a HUGE fan of kwikfish.  If I had to, I wouldn't be able to choose one or the other, it's dead even.

Stock up on WW's and Kwikfish in hot colors now, because local stores can't keep them in stock come late summer/fall.  Avoid Brad's brand...their hooks are crap.  The baits body itself is fine, so if you have no other choice use them, but replace the hooks.

Good fishin!

for Coho i troll about 3 mph, pretty much as fast as comfortable.

For chinook i woukld use a small spreader with about a 12 inch dropper weight and a 3 foot leader from the spreader to the rig( 4 foot for cut plug)...Troll about 1.5 MPH for chinook

Another option to use when fishing plugs--either kwik fish or wiggle warts--is to use a Jet Diver ahead of the plug. On the Kenai River, probably 90% of the guides employ this tactic .Run whatever size Jet Diver (they come available in sizes that will run from 10 to 50 feet deep) on a sliding set-up,to a swivel, and run a 6 foot leader below the swivel to your plug. You can also use a Jet Diver with spin-n-glows,or bait.
This tactic is most commonly used back-bouncing but can be effective trolling from a kayak. You'll have to keep moving to force the diver to take your offering down. Can be very productive in tidal estuaries and slower rivers.
Colors---orange is popular with many anglers.I have had better results with dark greens, blues, and purples. But you have to adapt the color to the water conditions.Dark colors in murky or stained water--lighter and brighter in clearer conditions.Be flexible and willing to expirement til you find the "right combination".
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Ask anyone in Alaska who fishes for King salmon to see their tackle box and you will see a Wiggle Wart there. Unless that person is a tourist from the Lower 48 then the guide probably has it.
