For those of you who limit out early on Saturday, there will be the First annual "Salmon Tales" festival in Westport.  A message from the Chamber of Commerce and information about this is attached at the bottom of my first post.  Looks like a good time.  They are also having a smoked salmon contest with professional and amateur divisions.  Anyone is welcome to participate and hopefully someone can represent NWKA with a winning recipe.

Called and reserved my tent site.  Excited for this event!  Wish I knew about the smoked salmon contest...I would have entered for sure.  There might still be time though...hmm....Just need to catch a salmon this weekend.

I called Westport Inn to reserve a campsite.  The guy on the phone talked me out of it.  When I told him about the event, he asked where we'd be launching from. When I told him John's River launch ramp he suggested camping at Twin Harbor State Park.  He said it was much nicer for camping and a lot closer to our launch site.  Yes, he'd heard of the Kayak Fishing event on 9/22, but said that without an R/V it won't be much fun camping at the parking lot at the Inn.  ???

Did anyone else encounter the same issue?

I was not talked out of it, but signed up for it because I want to camp with the group.  I prefer the Twin harbor park to just about anything over there, but still hope that the Inn's campsite will be enjoyable.  I will still make the 8min drive to the Twin Harbor showers if there are none to use at Westport Inn.

Nope, he mentioned someone named Mike (I think) knew more about the kayak fishing event, he'd only heard of it.  I think he was just trying to save me the disappointment of camping in a parking lot.

Anyone have an opinion of the rooms at the inn? My wife may make the trip, are there any fun things like antiques, shops to keep her entertained?

If my wife and little ones go we will be getting a room.  Did you check out their website?  I scouted out all locations in August and the Hotel looked to be decent.  Here are some pics of the area set aside for us.  No it isn't like the state park but it gives accommodation options for everyone and for those that will be accompanying but not fishing the derby it is nice that it is right in town.
