Well I have been looking at places to go for coho and heard good things about upper Hood Canal and the Quilcene area. I am planning on going for Saturday and Sunday, chucking Buzz bombs are hopefully get my 4 coho limit.
Going to try and camp and launch out of Dosewallips park and pedal around and get my fishin' on!
So open invitation if anyone else wants to go or meet up

Have you heard a recent/good report on Coho at Quilcene? The place rocks after the first decent rainfall when the run in on and 4 fish are the norm, but it can be very slooooow before the rain trigger. The trick is in the timing at that place and it hasn't rained yet. Not saying it won't happen, just checking for info. I was thinking the strait might be more productive, at least there is the bottom fishing option if the salmon bite is cold.

I think there is a launch in Quilcene.  But Brinnon would be a long pedal.

I just talked to a guy who claims to be limiting out consistently on the Big Quilcene (from the bank) so it sounds like the silvers are still moving into the river.
To capture the fish is not all of the fishing. Yet there are circumstances which make this philosophy hard to accept.

I have heard some good reports from the bankies, and last week when i drove by 101 and looked at the area (recon) I saw some surface action. I figured the rains would help but doesn't it always seem to rain on labor day like the 4th of July? ;D

There's a small launch or beach right in Quilcene, good for kayaks if I remember. I've fished the head of the bay in some very shallow water, seems like a productive area if the fish are in. I'll be in the area, might put it on my list this weekend.

Watch your speed on Quilcene road, easy to do 65 and the place is a speed trap (as the entire Kitsap Peninsula will be this weekend).

If you're coming up 101 from the south, really keep your eyes peeled between Brinnon and Quil. The cops like to clock you and then leisurely follow you for a few miles before pulling you over once you're good and sweaty.

There is a launch area in the bay that is 'toon/'yak friendly. Fished from the toon there many times.
Kayak fishing?  I have no clue, but I'm doing it.

ok so question for the veterans of this fishery...  In my experience the closer the coho get to freshwater they are more likely to get lock jawed.
I was waiting for the opening of the upper hood canal to fish the peninsula across from Dosewallips park.

Should I fish the peninsula area across the way to the east or focus my time closer in the bay to Quilcene / Dabob?

Don't quote me on this as I'm not a lawyer but I >>think<< it's open as long as you aren't fishing way up into Tarboo Bay?

You still headed out that way?  Looks like a few of us may be up in that area this weekend.

I'm on Freshwater Bay now. Hitting Cape Flattery in the morning. I'll be at Quilcene on Sunday afternoon for the high tide.  See you there.
