launched at Mukilteo at sunrise and headed south towards Shipwreck. Sent my 8lb downrigger ball down 57 feet and tried to maintain about 3.5 MPH. there was still a steeper angle on my down rigger line than I'd of liked. I was using a red racer flasher with 36 inches of leader to a green squid.

I could only comfortably obtain supposed fishable Coho speed one direction.and the angle of my 6 lb ball was straight behind me, hard to tell what depth you are fishing at at that point. I ordered an 8 lb pancake weight that has not arrived yet was using a regular 8 lb ball, best i could do

No need to go deep for coho right now. Try a deep-six or pink lady diver, even a 4 to 5 oz ball on a mooching type rig works.  A bunch of us have caught coho in the top 20 feet of water in the past week just south of you off Golden Gardens.  It's not much fun dragging 8 lbs of lead off a kayak, I know from many hours of dragging for Kings.

I ditch my downrigger system when the coho bite is on like this, you'll go faster and cover more area.  If they are hungry they'll come up from 40 or 50 feet and slam a system that's down 20 feet. They hunt by watching for silhouettes passing over them.  Another plus is the water is super clear right now, which helps to bring in fish from greater distances or depths. I even drop down to 12# test with the lighter rigs, but I love a light tackle salmon fight. Go light, have more fun and you'll still get your fish.

Congrats on your first coho.  Yeah, I can't imagin dragging around 8lbs. That sounds like a one sided workout to me. :D
Water everywhere, but not a drop to drink.
