I posted this link a while back but the link went dead.  I think it's only a matter of time before Surf Ballard starts renting these for paddleboard fishing

Worthwhile video just for that bikini, strap or whatever that thing is, but she didn't seem very serious about catching fish  ;).  Surf Ballard better hurry, the temps are dropping and everyone knows that SUPs hate to wear more than the bare minimum, it defeats the purpose of this 'look at me' activity.

Met a guy in Truckee weekend before last who had this super cool Tahoe SUP  touring board on his truck. He'd paddled the entire 75 mile shoreline of Lake Tahoe and was training to paddle it from Cuba to Key West! Sucker was thick enough to store gear for long distance adventures. The dude was thick, too. Had arms like tree trunks.

Sheesh, another new hobby beckoning.

Appropriate immersion wear but, for shame, no PFD.

Having an interest in paddling and sight-fishing from the stand up platform, this topic caught my attention.
After reading the thread I couldn't help but be surprised by a few of the comments.

Referring to SUP as a "look at me" activity was impressive, especially reading it in a forum packed full of photos of guys holding up fish.
Yaktrap, You must be very blessed athletically to find no challenge in your stand up experiences.
I am not so blessed. I find this game VERY challenging and has been a fantastic core exercise that a guy in his mid 40s , like myself, can really use. I am getting stronger though and it is definitely transferring over to my time paddling the boats. The other byproduct of spending time on the boards is that Im getting much better at standing up in kayaks.  I used a stand up platform to fish the San Joaquin river and I was amazed at how many more fish I spotted. It ended up being my best trout fishing day to date.
Yes,  it just so happens that beautiful and healthy women (who enjoy wearing bikinis) find the SUP enjoyable. Im just not wired in a way that finds this offensive but only as a plus. Instead of a "look at me" activity, I find it more of a "look at them" hobby. The SLF and I enjoy our time on the water together without fishing and just focusing on this very recreational workout that never feels like working out.
I recommend paddling and fishing on a SUP without reservation. It is fun incarnate.

Appropriate immersion wear but, for shame, no PFD.
Im curious if this statement is in jest? I really hope so. Hordes of people swim for miles in the ocean daily with nothing more than a speedo and an Ipod. Other than the "riding giants" crew, how many surfers are using PFDs? To suggest that the athletic creature in the video should be wearing a PFD in those conditions baffles me.
Mt intent is not to offend but I choose to haunt this forum and try to contribute here because it is packed full of intelligent folks that share wisdom based on real water experiences.
I have witnessed good forums fall into the world of the Barneys and it would be tragic for that to happen here. This is a special culture and I hope it stays special, smart, and accurate.

Go Hawks!

Whew, thought I was gonna have to do that. Thanks, Spidey. Pig riding is the bee's knees. Been loving the SUP world. And yeah, one's kayak power gets a nice boost from the cross training. Go catch a salmon on the green machine.

Where pulling in a decent fighting fish from a Kayak is many times more of a hoot than from a PB,  I would think fighting one while standing up like that would take it even a step further.    I picture a stand up fighting harness with a tuna or such on the end of the line.

As far as no PFD in the vid,  looks like boyancy will not be a problem for that model  ;D
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

...and I love how insecure SUPers are too. My favorite is to ask them:  Is that a new sport, kneel down paddle boarding? I love watching them stuff up the main shipping channel from Puget Sound into Lake Washington by falling all over themselves. I suppose going to some unused corner of the lake to learn how to stand up would defeat the purpose of it all, no audience. And having the USCG show up or the Police boat and waste valuable time and energy clearing them out of the way, that only adds to the whole show. I can't wait for the cold weather to start, then only the good ones are left and most of them I've known for years. Yes, I've tried it. No, I didn't find it difficult or challenging, just inefficient. The SUPers I know that have enough skill to catch a salmon from a SUP have no interest in it at all. They don't want anything to do with being on stage.

YT ... can you please just be quiet and sit in the corner.
What the hell is your problem with SUPs?

To each his own. Some idiots just paddle around and don't even go fishing! ... guess what ... I don't care.

Some people go out on charter boats at Westport just to look at bird .... who cares.

Go crawl back in your cave....

Is it just me or are guys who paddle SINK's often quite full of themselves?

Stereotype much?

I get it. Every sport has its Massengill index. I'm sure that, to a lot of power boat-based anglers, we kayak anglers can seem, at times, like clogs in the system. But those of us who also fish from SUPs, well, we're not all inept or prone to showing off. I, personally, like to take the board to places seldom seen by other anglers. That's part of the sport's charm - we can go to narrow and debris-clogged areas devoid of pressure. And then bonk fish on the head with a sight-casted lure. It's pretty fun.

I hope this doesn't come across as an insecure plea reeking of desires for acceptance. Just wanted to keep the peace. Fish on, brother.

Last year I made friends with a guy at Hobuck that paddled his SUP to us as we were fishing the first rocks. I was so jealous cause he could see my jig that was 15 ft down when the lings were eye balling and hitting my lures. I've wanted one ever since.
