I have been thinking about why I like kayak fishing.  I actually enjoy fishing, period. But there is something special for me about kayak fishing.  I spent some early morning bank fishing for silvers - nada.  I also spent sometime later in the afternoon fishing a little local lake in my mini-x.  I almost fell asleep in the yak... I find it to just be pleasant... and it doesn't seem like there are a lot of things anymore that are just pleasant.  I managed to catch 2 of the smallest trout I have ever seen, a super small sunfish and a itty bitty perch... I spoke gentle to them and told them how pretty they were and put them back in the water.  I  :love4: my kayak and I  :love4: my kayaks... if it is wrong, I don't want to be right.  I hope to find my way to the Chehalis tomorrow, the westport jetty friday, the lake on saturday and maybe oakland bay on sunday... Lord willing.  As others say - tight lines... and as I would say - full hearts.

A fitting post. I can totally relate to that. Tight lines.

Great post! I tried to explain this to my wife and got a blank stare in return. It is truly the most relaxing activity that I can think of. When I am on the water time stands still. Hours pass and life continues it's headlong race to somewhere. When I come off the water I am always amazed by the time that has passed.

Thanks for putting words to a feeling.

my girlfriend asked me this recently.. it went something like:

"you dont have patience for anything, you cant wait three minutes while i brush my teeth, or twenty seconds while i gather my things before getting out of the car. how are you able to sit silently and stare at a fishing pole for several hours and not get mad if you dont catch anything?

i drew a blank, and said "I have no idea sweetie, but im sure it has something to do with being a man."

Rev, I remember when you first walked into this filthy saloon. You were so stoked. I hoped it would stick with you. It has. Your stoke is infectious, man. Keep it glowing.

Rev, I can't agree more.

My wife has noticed I am much happier and relaxed since I have started kayak fishing a lot more the past few years.  It is one of the reasons she let's me get out so much.  There is something about being on the water, whether it be the smell of creosote on the pilings, the smell of the salt air, or the solitude of a mountain lake, that makes me feel at home.

A freezer full of nutritious and delicious fish ain't a wrong answer is it?

All these "feelings" are making my pu$$y itchy.

I'm going to ignore LB's thread jack and keep this flowing...

Those of us with kids know quite well how soothing it can be for the little ones to be gently rocked back and forth, as if going back to the womb.  I think fishing from a kayak takes us all back to that special place in our subconscious mind, and mixes that up with solitude and nature, and an escape from everyday stress.  Add in the potential for catching a fish and you have blissful perfection.

That's my view of this gift called kayak angling.

Can't agree more with you fellas.....it's hard to put into words the "why's"... All I know is it does wonders for me.

I have a great family.  But I see a lot of 'yuck' when I'm at work. A few hours in my yak completely washes a lot of the yuck away and gives me back the perspective I've momentarily lost...

Again, I don't understand why and frankly don't give a rats a$$ if I ever am able to answer that question...all I know is it just does :).
