In the interest of sharing a little needed love and good will around here, those interested in finding some coho in the PDX area need to look no further than the mouth of the Tualatin.   Been there the last few mornings (its a morning or evening bite) and I've caught fish 8).  Its a plug trolling show, don't ask for the hot color, you'll have to do your own leg work on that.  Above the falls native coho are fair game.

I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

Thanks for the tip.  I was going to fish a bit higher up on the Tualatin this weekend but it looks like I may be staying around the mouth.

These fish just "hang out" in front of these tribs.  Mouth of the Molalla if another very similar and productive spot.  Its just more of a paddle than the fishery at the mouth of the little muddy.

It would be cool to see a picture or two of your catch.  The best are always the ones with the lure still in their mouth.  ;)

Trollling plugs like a bright orange wiggle wart would be you best bet if you want to roll the dice for coho.

Thanks Ron for the tip.

I am pleased to report I caught 2 jacks today. This is my first Coho from a kayak.

I was fishing the mouth of the Molalla river. Caught both fish around 10 AM with in 5 minutes and 50 feet of each other.
I launched around 7:30.

About 10 PB fishing this area. I saw about 10 jacks and 3 adults taken.

Dude, your like Babe Ruth calling his shot! Orange Wiggle Wart indeed. Way to put the hurt on those jacks.

I'm sticking with matte black thankyouverymuch. Dressed with a glo squid and tipped with a whole prawn. Deadly.

It was very slow this weekend.  Fished Sat and Sun and saw nothing caught at the mouth.  The Wiggle Warts weren't getting any attention so I downsized to a Wee Wart.  Went exploring in the afternoon on Sunday and hooked one about a mile upstream but couldn't seal the deal.  Talked with a bass fisherman later and he'd picked one up on a topwater from one of the shelfs?!?!?

Both those fish were hooked in relatively shallow water (8 to 12 feet).  I'm guessing these fish were on the move when the lures found them.

Thanks for the intel Pelagic!  I had a lot of fun exploring some new water.

Ron was spot on this one.

I fished both 8 hours on Saturday and 4 hours on sunday.

Picked up 2 jacks at 10 AM on Saturday and 1 jack at 6 PM. I was off the water from 12 to 5 PM on Saturday.
About 10 differnet PB working the mouth of the Molalla river. I saw 3 adult Coho and 10 jacks taken on Saturday.

I talked to 2 guys bass fishing and they said they caught small wild steelhead. It was around 2 lbs.
I asked if it could have been a jack Coho? They said it could have been but it was not clipped so they released it.
I informed them that any Coho above the falls is leagel to keep. It was caught in tight cover in less than 5 feet of water.

I noticed a lot more fish jumping on Saturday then Sunday. Form the middle of the river to the bank.

Most of the adults that were taken were in the middle of the river about 1/4 to 1/2 mile down stream of the mouth. Most of the jacks were taken 500 feet up or down stream of the mouth.

Most PB were working from the powerlines above the mouth to 1/2 mile down stream.
it looked like fish were in 20 to 30 feed of water and about 10 to 15 feet deep in the targeted areas.

On Sunday my wife and Dale (deluxeharly) fished the area. I landed 1 jack at 8 AM and my wife had 1 around 9:30 AM.

The pressure on Sunday was about 20 PB's and the 3 of us on kayaks.
I saw 3 jacks taken by PB's on Sunday. No adults. The fish were not jumping as much on Sunday. I still noticed them jumping in the bass water area on both days.

Weather for Saturday was overcast in the AM and clear for the PM bite.
Sunday was clear for the AM.
