Not sure how many ppl have gotten bitten by the custom rod bug.
If you have or haven't been this might interest you.

I've ogled Armbreaker rods for awhile now.  Was talking with him about building me a kayak fishing stubby.  Never did pull the trigger.  Let me know how it goes for you after using it a few times.

I have built a couple and must say it is very addictive. Unfortunately none of those will make it onto the kayak with me for fear of breaking, dropping, scuffing, water spots etc

That being said, I have been reading lately for a cheap blank for a 2 piece rockfish / lingcod pole.

Also, nice blog, especially about the long poles and British-style fishing. My friend recently brought me back a copy of an angling publication from England chock full of articles on how to target mirrorside carp, tench, barbel, brim, and other "dignified" sport fish. Fun to look into different techniques.
I actually think their popup rigs for carp could be translated to something for Sturgeon - similar mouth and feeding practices.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

I have been thinking the same about the pop up boilies.

I  building rods. About as much as tying flies and pouring jigs. Actually, probably more.

I'm still mentally gathering ideas for a rod I'm building next month...

He's asking what the price is.
As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

My brother surprised me a couple years ago by making this rod for my birthday. It's nothing crazy or over the top like the ones mentioned above, but he put a lot of thought into the details and it really blew me away. When we were growing up I was a little crazy about snakes, especially copperheads(I know its crazy!) Anyway, he built this rod with a copperhead theme including an inlay of copperhead skin, and a penny with my birth-year on it. Easily the best gift I ever got, and I'm scared to death to use the thing. I used it to catch a couple pinks last year to properly break it in and promptly put it away.

In years past I have built a bunch of salmon/sturgeon "utility" rods.  Most are Harrington blanks with old school cord wraps for grips.  Not pretty but they have caught a lot of fish.

Love it! The way he set the pattern on the snake-skin inlay is cool and the beautiful wood handle is definitely one-of-a-kind, what type of wood is it?

I've thought about turning a chunk of wood for a custom handle as I think they're aesthetically gorgeous - it'd be another plus if the wood had meaning; for instance if it came  from a tree in your yard or a cool piece of driftwood you found yourself. Anyone here fished with a wood handled rod? Are they slick when wet due to the varnish? Uncomfortable to hold? Heavy? (that may be a good thing for balance)
