Hobie® Cat Company Announces Partners for Second Annual Hobie Fishing World Championship

Tuesday, 23 October 2012 10:08

Oceanside, California – October 22, 2012

Sponsors for the upcoming second annual Hobie Fishing World Championship reads like a who's who of the fishing world. Hobie Cat Company is teaming up with Daiwa® and Lowrance® Electronics as the "Worlds" comes to Austin, Texas, November 4-9, 2012. Both visionary companies were instrumental in the 2011 Port Macquarie, Australia inaugural event that helped set the stage for an annual international kayak fishing competition. The first event was such a success that Hobie Cat, Daiwa and Lowrance have been joined by new corporate partners including Columbia®, Gamakatsu®, Hobie Polarized and Ram® Mounting Systems. All seven companies will contribute to make the Texas event possible and have generously contributed to the prize pot that will go along with the coveted World title.

2011 World Champion, Scotty Baker, returns to lead the Australian team and pursue his quest to stay on top. The competition will be stiff as the global field consists of 43 top anglers from 13 different countries. Participants have either qualified through contest or been invited based on regional performance and angling credentials. "It's rare to assemble such a diverse group of anglers with unique skills and experience," commented Keeton Eoff from Hobie Cat. "Kayak fishing is truly a global sport and Hobie Cat and all our partners are excited about the impact this event has and will continue to have on the industry and the direction the sport is moving."

All competitors will fish for freshwater bass from identically rigged Hobie Mirage® Pro Angler 12 kayaks provided by Hobie Cat Company and outfitted with Lowrance Electronics and Ram Mounting Systems. The competition will be held on two of the best-known fisheries in Texas: Lake Bastrop and Fayette County Reservoir. Each of them holds the caliber of fish necessary for an international competition. Consistent with the conservation practices of the fisheries, the Hobie Fishing Worlds will be a Catch, Photograph and Release tournament or CPR for short. Each angler will use this method to score their best three fish each day to reach their final three day total.

Since 1950, Hobie has been in the business of shaping a unique lifestyle based around fun, water, and quality products. From their headquarters in Oceanside, California, Hobie Cat Company manufactures, distributes, and markets an impressive collection of watercraft worldwide. These include an ever-expanding line of recreation and racing sailboats, pedal-driven and paddle sit-on-top recreation and fishing kayaks, inflatable kayaks and fishing boats plus a complementary array of parts and accessories.

Cheers!

Should be lots of fun and a real significant achievement to be invited. Wish I could sail around and video you winning.

Good luck.

Anyone have any strong advice for fishing LMB in Austin, Texas? Both lakes are the cooling lakes for nearby power plants and have a maintain a consistant temperature year round.

Cheers NWKA! :)

JMR

I'm packed and ready for Austin.

I wanted to say THANK YOU for all the support and advice via PM's, emails, text messages and comments at my KFO website.

As long as you catch more & bigger fish than anyone else, you'll have nothing to worry about.  ::)
Have fun, kick @$$, and point us towards the footage from all the Go Pros that will be undoubtedly strapped to your every crevice.
(but let's be honest, if you're wearing shorts, please be mindful of where the camera is pointed.)

Cheers!!
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Hey guys. Things have been crazy busy down here in Texas. As you can see from yesterday's results, it was definitely not my day. I got into a few fish, but only 1 counted towards the days total. Im starting to figure out this fishery, as today was a MUCH better day with some nice fish landed. There's no way I will be able to finish on the podium overall, but today's score should move me up quite a bit in the pack. I will let you know where I stand after tonight's top 10 for the day are called on stage.
Also, we have no wireless out here in the sticks, so have not been able to write up anything for you all. I let you know later tonight where I ended up for today. Thanks again for all your support.
Cheers!
