Allen,
Would it be super difficult to add the ability to post comments on the AOTY picture entries? I was looking at Fungunnin's Lingzilla and got the idea that it would be pretty cool to be able to have comment capabilities for each post on the AOTY website that way people can comment on the fish. Maybe like a comment button at the bottom of the post, or even a thread format like what we have here.
I know this potentially opens up a can of worms as far as people "debating" fish size and stuff, but I still think it would be cool to give people some props by commenting on their entry directly.

Shouldn't this be done on the regular forum?  Maybe an AOTY "sub forum" under events or something?

It could, but why not just open up the capability to do it directly on the AOTY entry itself. People go there to see the pics anyway, it would be nice to have a spot to comment on them.
Plus it would make the AOTY site more interactive.

New rules for AOTY 2013

Quote
I'll update this as we finish each issue.  Or you mods can do it, with your super-cool mod buttons.

Measurement of fish and photographs:
Photographs must be clear, with measurements easily read.  It is recommended to use a sharpie on measuring devices that are not clearly marked.  The ENTIRE fish must show on the measuring device in at least 1 picture.  Missing portions of the head or tail will result in a disqualification of the fish.  Any fish that has the appearance of possibly being not qualified for entry (such as the appearance of an adipose fin from a non native retention body of water) will be disqualified.  Participants are responsible for ensuring the pictures are of sufficient quality to demonstrate the legality of the catch as defined by the rules of the state where the fish was caught.

Fish may NOT be gutted, have their throat cut or ripped through, or manipulated in any way prior to photographs being taken.  Cutting of gills is permitted.

Tails may be pressed together or tilted.

Mouths must be completely closed.  If the mouth is not completely closed, the entry will be disqualified.

Mothership Rule:
Use of motherships is prohibited.  "Mothership" is defined as arriving by and launching from a boat.  Use of a vessel(e.g. water taxi, ferry, or privately owned boat) to travel to a destination for overnight or multi-day trips is not considered mothershipping.  Camping on boats is permitted and kayaks may be launched from the boat, as long as the vessel was moored overnight and the kayaks are launched from the overnight mooring location.

Use of guides:
Fish caught while participating in, or in conjunction with, a paid and/or guided trip may not be entered.  This includes guides, comped participants, and paid clients.

Clarification of Sails/Motors:  Sails and/or motors are not allowed onboard even if they are not used.

Divisions:
In addition to the overall division, we will be adding state divisions based on which state license you used for the catch (which license is especially relavent for the Columbia River fisheries).

Point adjustments:

Cutthroat Trout +.5 to 8.5
Kokanee +1 to 11
Largemouth Bass +.5 to 9.5
Panfish +1 to 13
Rainbow Trout +.5 to 8
Surf Perch+.5 to 13
Walleye+.5 to 7.5

New Species:
Sockeye Salmon (PPI TBD)
Pink Salmon (PPI TBD)
Grayling (PPI TBD)
Dolly Varden / Bull Trout / Arctic Char (PPI TBD)
Catfish (PPI TBD)

Could you expand on the State License division clause?  Washington vers Oregon on the Columbia especially.

Yes, that is what we had in mind when trying to word it.  The best way we came up with was that the license you used for that day's fishing is what state an entry applies to.  On the Columbia, you can fish the WA side with an OR license.  That fish would count as an OR fish since you used an OR license to catch it.  And visa versa.

So the only reason for having different divisions for different states is for ensuring that the regulations are followed?

Nope.  More like bragging rights and prizes.

What fisheries would that pertain to?  Why would it matter?  Both states are always concurrent with bag limits and seasons, since they share the same waterway (Big C).  Hence allowing the reciprocal landings.  Is it to track and categorize the AOTY catches of individuals who purchase licenses in both states?  So if you wanted to win both states AOTY division you'd have to catch a nook on each states card out of the Columbia?

With regards to the point adjustments section, why were chums not given an adjustment?

Why should chum be adjusted?  There were 2 caught, that were barely over 200 points.  There was a 222 point Ling, 212 point rockfish, 231 point Halibut, 10+ Cabezon that are 200 points or more, a 205 point Chinook, a 232 point rainbow trout... caught by some dude in Oregon...

 - but seriously, why would we need to adjust Chum?  There are only 2 in the entire history of AOTY that were over 200 points, and this was noted to be an exceptional year for Chum.  If we decrease Chum, then Cabezon and several others would need a severe point-reducing beating with the nerf bat.

So the only reason for having different divisions for different states is for ensuring that the regulations are followed?

Nope.  More like bragging rights and prizes.

We wanted to give more opportunities for people to place, and make winning a possibility for more.  The "overall" division will still count entries from multiple states.
