TVC70ML + MXJ for me.

If I lost mine I'd make a wpt and be back with scuba gear. What a bummer.

Does MILs employer carry OKUMA?  If so look for the lighter Cedros but be ready to convert capacity from grams to ounces. They average 6 ft 6 and even break down.  MSRP is @$129 but have seen them listed for $100 in stores and @ $89 AMAZON.

From your description one of the older surf reels paired with this might work well for you.

Got it a bit wrong. The Andros is the Okuma jigger that breaks down. The Cedros is one piece.

I got the model number wrong.  I like the TVC66M and not the MH.

Have to ask, unless anyone with a Bi-Mart local to them happens to have a chance to look (nearest Bi-Mart to me is several hour's drive).

If anyone has a suitable rod they're looking to sell let me know.  I've got a few bucks in my pocket at the moment.

I love my tiger stick lite (SHA-BWCJL220063).  I got it for halibut, but it works well for rockfish too.

Oh, hey, before i forget. Spot brought up Daiwa gear earlier. Don't  forget to check out their Beefstick line.

These are normally one piece S Glass rods that are super strong and have great capacity. Nice thing? Prices start around $29 and stretch up to around $60. Affordable and so far for me at least they're as durable and reliable as the good old Ugly Sticks.

I loved my travalla until I got a Lamiglas Tri-Flex. The 10-20 pound 7' casting is my new favorite rod. Paired with my Talica 8 all my other bottom fish rods have been collecting dust.

$290 MSRP for the Tri-Flex?  Ouch!  But the way you were talking about that thing at Brouwers, it sounded pretty sweet.

Which Trevalla?  Selling it perhaps?   ;)

I have two spare mh trevallas ... picked up my tri flex for about 125 .... my rule is never pay MSRP ;D

I just bought one of these a couple of months ago and even though I haven't tried it out on the salt, it's everything I look for in an all-around bottom fishing rod.  Cheap, lightweight, really durable, 7ft. long, steel guides, soft tip and a ton of back bone.  I paired it with a Penn 500s and it feels just right.  It's similar to an Uglystick, but has more power and isn't as ugly.  ;D  I can't say anything about the sensitivity of it yet.

+1 on that one.  It also works for sturgeon.

I bought Lee's spinning ugly stick jigging rod like the one mentioned by Noah. I love it. I think my Shimano Stradic  2500 is a bit small for it though, so I'll be looking for a bit bigger reel.

It will work for halibut every once and awhile but it wouldn't be my first choice. It really depends where and how you are targeting halibut. Most times in Washington I'm using 16 oz plus for halibut so as long as your reel can handle that you are OK.

Did anybody in OR even make it out for halibut this year? I didn't make it out, didn't see any reports, didn't get any invites.

A flat year for flat fish.

Oh wait, I seem to remember Noah and Nate got chased back to shore by rising swell. Anybody else try?
