Couldn't articulate it last night too well but Justin is right.  For those of us using non wide aspect screens that is a bit overkill

Do you have the same problem on other sites?  Again, it is fairly common these days.

Ncka, Washington fly fishing, Toasts site , right now now issues. AH run by Ike, haven't been there to check.

One thing i do like is that whatever you did  to make pages load faster is a nice touch.

Don't worry, NCKA will get the wider columns soo.  And WFF, their right column is almost 300.  Aquahunters.  I run that!  And it will be wide soon too.

I prefer to see the recent topics quickly and dislike the right left change... probably because it feels backwards... As a frequent reader, I am looking to see recent topics asap... but as it stands I have to scroll half way down to find it.  Don't even get me started on what it looks like on my iphone. :)

The vertical location of the recent topics is roughly the same as before.  The top user area is now gone so we gained that vertical area, however we added a user area at the top of the column.  So we lost that.  In this regard, nothing has changed.

C'mon ladies and gennelmens, tell the boss what you do and don't like about what he's doing. Don't let just a few of us speak for everyone.

Not a fan of the layout.  I don't like having the posts so narrow.  This applies to both my viewing on a PC and on my phone (admittendly I have not yet paid for Tapatalk).

I changed my display to 1024x768 and I see what you mean a bit.   I tweaked the outside frame to be smaller, effectively giving more horizontal viewing area in the main area.  Hope it's not too objectionable after that.

Actually, the way SMF handles the avatar/user info is not "horizonatally friendly".  Other forum software have the ability to put this info vertically inline so as not to lose horizonatal area.  I can't find an easy way to do that right now short of doing a full custom theme (and I don't have time for that).

I agree that it seems backwards.  Since we read left to right I first look at the top left side.

The recent post/topic is the first thing that I look for when I visit.

It is better than before I posted that comment.  Still not a huge fan.  But this forum doesn't exist to cater to my every whim, and I'm not the one maintaining it, so I'm not going to complain.

It was a little bit unsettling to start, sure, while I looked for the normal way I access what interests me -- the unread posts since my last visit.  But really, after noodling around for maybe two minutes, I found it.  Different visual cue -- no familiar picture of my favorite halibut. But now that I know to look right, and for words rather than a picture... It's fine.  Just took a few minutes; wasn't instantaneous. So ultimately no complaints from this quarter on the revisions.

One suggestion, though. When there's a design change in process, or coming, could you insert very high up a little block that graphically signals that change is afoot.  That might serve to reassure some of us that (a) that it's not our computers or ISP acting balky, (b) that we're not developing some cognitive deficiencies, and (c) that we should pay attention and be patient while change is being worked through.

There, I put your butt back up in the user area.  Mine too!  Everyones!   ;D

Yeah, you're right.  I should have.  I was just sitting there on a dreary Sunday afternoon and I got on a roll.

Took a few minutes to reorient myself but now I like it more than the "old" layout.  Flows well, logical layout, at least for me.
