I know this has been asked before... heck, I have probably asked it before.  However, things changes and what we thought would be useful today we find irritatingly in the way tomorrow.  With that said, how do you outfit yourself and your yak when fishing...

the big blue (ocean) for bottom fish...

the big blue for salmon...

your favorite local lake or bass, or trout, or panfish...

moving water... rivers, big (columbia) or small (satsop)...

For me... I think I have been bringing way too much and am considering some changes.

Things I won't change.

PFD and my immersion gear... unless it is the middle of blazing hot weather and I am on one of my small lakes.

Things I may change...

I frequently carry 3 poles and a net.  I'm tired of that.  The extra poles and net always get in the way.  I am gonna go to 2 poles.  One that is put together and the other broken down.  Then only put it together if I have a snafu.  No net - unless I am fishing salmon.  I never use it for bottom fish anyway.  No lip grippers.  I am conflicted on bringing the game clip... I dislike the way the fish go on vs using a rope with a loop on the end and a clip on the other.  I also have a big milk crate that I am thinking of ditching.  It is hard to get stuff in and out of anyway without completely turning around.

I would like to have a way of easier dealing with anchors.  I am considering adding one of those scotty anchor locks... whatever I do I want something other then the trolley system.

I also need to figure out a better way to attach my rudder lines to my rudder assembly.

What are you all thinking of doing?

For me it's figuring out a better anchor trolley system. I don't want to drill any holes and the system I currently have I don't like.

Things I don't bring on every trip:

Net
Gaff
Rod #3
GoPro
Crap load of tackle
Hawg trough

Things I take every trip:

PFD
2 rods
GPS/Fish finder
Center hatch bucket
Milk crate
Scotty rod holder/Scotty arm
Paddle (in case I have issues with the mirage drive)
Rain gear in front hatch storage
Repair tools bucket in rear hatch
Safety flag
Wheel Eez cart

I always have a PFD, safety flag, and rods/tackle for the targeted species.
For everything else, it just depends...

One thing I need to pick-up and remember every time is a hex wrench for the Hobie rudder control.  Mine came off again during the last quak yakin' expedition.  To turn right, I had to shoot left and vice versa.  Just kidding...but I wonder how many rounds it would take to work.

However, two rules I live by (most of the time):

1) Freshwater (unless it is fast moving)= beer
2) Saltwater= No beer

And what equals Scotch?  Freshwater and butt cold possibly?

I bring all the basics also but a few thing I would add:

Extra reel in case I get spooled or frayed or snagged on another reel
At least 2 times the water I think I'll need.
Usually a thermos for coffee :-)
2 knives in case 1 goes over
At least 2 ways to fix my position in salt water... Hh Gps/phone/ffgps combo
Cooler for fish, snacks, and drink
Rope!

This is a very good discussion because every trip is different

I also have a checklist for stuff I may need because I was tired of getting out on the water and forgetting stuff!!

I was going to add that as the third of the two rules, but I did not know if people would get it. :)  That and I gave up the cold weather sturgeon fishing for duck hunting.  We don't allow anything stronger than Mountain Dew when firearms are involved.  Nate and I almost bought a six pack on Sauvie Island a couple weekends ago then we realized we were hunting and not fishing.

I concur with the move from beer to Scotch when fishing in the cold. You may have saved my life last winter when we were out at Rooster Rock.  For as often as you have provided Scotch to your peers, you should change your avatar to a St. Bernard (I know they carry rum, but so what?).

At my age beer=make water (it's always salty) so I don't bring any. I bring 1 pole, soon to be 2, downrigger and clips and ball (5lb in summer, 10 lb in winter) 1 net, 1 gaff, a black plastic bag for fish, gps/fishfinder combo, vhf, pfd, knife, throwbag, milkcrate.

I've been trimming my gear down a bit too.

Always:
- Drysuit
- PFD
- other safety gear
- GPS/Sonar
- Paddle.
- Mirage drive spare parts in truck. Spare rudder pins in boat.

the big blue (ocean) for bottom fish...
- Stout rod and reel.
- Leadheads, 2-8oz
- Gulp grubs, other plastic
- Lip gripper.
- Game clip.
- Fish bag.
- Sometimes a milkcrate with one plano with spare gear and rod holders (tubes), other times I just use the crotch gear bucket on the Revo.

I use the lip gripper to lift the fish into the boat.  Slip the game clip on it, bleed it, then slip it off the clip and into the fishbag.

the big blue for salmon...
- Stout rod and reel for trolling.
- Downrigger
- Net
- Fishbag
- Game clip
- Lures (sometimes in a plano, sometimes just in the crotch gear bucket on the Revo)
- Baitcasting rod, reel, and lures for surface fish.

Maybe it is all of these survival shows on TV these days, but something to make a fire is now always on my "have with me" list.   Not only a wind proof lighter but a Magnesium starter in a couple layers of zip lock backs, along with some Toilet Paper to help start the fire.
If anything,  some day I may be grateful that I have the TP with me  :-[
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't
