Does anyone use any reels with power handles? I'd like to use this reel on a variety of big fish this year but I'm not a huge fan of the stock handle on my Shimano Calcutta 400TE which is why I'm looking to change it out. I have been eyeballing these two Shimano handles:

  Shimano TGT1119 Torium Power Handle

  Shimano TGT0504 Tekota Power Handle

My buddy uses an Avet SX and he swears by the power handle when fishing everything from lings to Tuna. I am looking for some pros/cons to adding this upgrade to my Calcutta 400TE or your opinions on this type of handle.

Thanks!

This is the stock handle that comes on the Diawa Sealine-X SHA reels and yeah, I friggin' LOVE it.

I've used this reel on big lings, rockfish, salmon and halibut and the handle makes things pretty comfy when cranking up the big ones.

I like running a single power handle on any set up that I will be fishing with more than a couple ounces.

I run power handles on a number of reels.  However, it depends on what I'm doing with the setup.  If I'm casting and retrieving, I like a smaller handle as I'm turning it a lot.  If I'm fishing big fish, I like the power handle as it does feel better in my hand when working a fish.

BIG ditto on how they are great for anytime your cranking in larger fish and/or lead.   Less fatiguing on the wrist / arm as it put's leverage in your favor.   I imagine that is why almost all larger capacity conventional reels utilize that handle design.   The only down fall in converting a smaller reel with one is it make it a bit harder to retrieve quickly it your fishing technique requires you to.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Which one are you using Yaksurf? The Tekota or Torium? I'm leaning towards going with the Torium but haven't decided of sure.

I think it's the tekota the reel is a few years old so I'm not sure.  It's not a round handle.  I have round grip on my diawa and don't like it as much.  With the oblong grip I feel I get a better grip.

What precisely is a "power handle"?  My Abu BG7001HS crank looks like this ... Is it a power handle?

Well, I think Abu calls that a power handle vs. the one with 2 handles.  But I don't think that is a power handle in the context of what is being discussed here.  The more I think about this, I think of a power handle as a handle that fills your whole hand vs. just gripping it with the tips of a few fingers.

It always bugs me when marketing terms turn into common nomenclature. The term 'power handle' seems to be applied to any handle with a longer throw and larger grip.
Rather than use this term why don't we just refer to the handles as either double or single for small reels. All higher quality current production large reels seem to have some sort of handle that is fairly comfortable. Currently the ball seems to be pretty popular until you step up to the big reels, 50# and up, which often have the economic angled handle.
Here are a few different reels with what I would consider comfortable long arm single handles

And I would consider this one to be a single handle long throw not so comfortable handle.

So what is a 'power handle' .... merely a marketing term.

Guessing that is not the stock handle / grip on the Abu Garcia baitcastser?

You have a good point in there is confusion to the definition.   Is a "Power Handle" any with an extended arm with or without a counter balance weight,  or is it based more on the size of the grip / knob itself  ??
I also notice many manufactures / sellers offer aftermarket replacement knobs / grips and define them as a handle.     Confusing

FG now do you like your Revo Toro? I've heard some good things. I had the opportunity to buy one earlier this year but got the Curado 300e instead as Shimano discontinued this model and i really liked it.
Shimano moved operations (at least for the Curado series) from Japan to Malaysia for their new Curado 200G7. What a load of garbage. Bought a G7 and returned it after a week. Big step down for the Curado series.
I do like the look of the Revo, it's got what appears to be a good design.
