Are you able to break 100 braid from the kayak?

its all about your anchor. I have absolutely no problem breaking it off, it takes some experience and a little know how but it can be done.

I wouldn't want to drift fish with it. You guys sound like you've never fished from a decent anchor

Wow! I fish 40# braid with 30# mono leader and there are times that it takes some real effort to break off, even when I have the current helping me.  I look forward to hearing about the monster you catch!

Yeah, I'd like to know as well. If you can, how??

I can say with a fair amount of experience on the "mighty" rivers around here that breaking unfrayed 100 braid (or much less for that matter) from a free floating kayak (un-anchored) is unlikely at best.  Short of wrapping it around a solid object like a dowel/fish wacker etc and pulling in a static straight up and down scenario, it won't happen using just the drag from the reel and the rod.  Even on anchor it would be necessary to wrap the line around something (dowel etc) to get it to break.  I have trouble, a lot in fact breaking 80 tuff from an anchored 20ft sled.

I don't think I could do that without flipping the boat when the line broke.

Let's try it.  I'll run the video!

We'll go multi-angle.  I'll wear my contour on my head.  You provide the rod and reel (and a leash, or some 550 cord).

I will put money that 100 pounds of pressure can not be exerted from a floating kayak!

I know I'm getting a bit off tangent here, but any reason you're not just using a 20-30 foot topshot of 60-100 pound mono?  I don't think of braid (or any test) when I think of abrasion resistance.  Mono would be much more abrasion resistant than equivalent braid and a topshot sounds like it would address scutes and abrasive snags.

I'm going to ask again, how do you break 100 lbs braid from a kayak? That's a pretty bold claim. You said its all about the anchor and experience. Please elaborate.

If it wasn't for my being a cold weather wimp,  I would go hit the lake here and see if I can pull up even 50 pounds of weights off of the bottom from a kayak with a 120 lbs class rod / reel.   Granted I am still trying to feel comfortable spinning around to access gear from behind me so I would not be the most stable lab rat for the test.   Polepole,  I would let you film it if you swear not to post the expected results on YouTube as an "Epic Fail" video  :'(

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

well of your anchor is solid enough you have enough counter strain to apply the pressure needed to break off 100#

I use a 2.2 # Bruce style anchor with 4' of 1/4" chain, it bites hard on most substrate.

As far as reels go have you looked at Accurate?  Tiburon would be another one to consider.  Both would work well spooled with Jerry Brown hollow.

I guess I can sort of picture how you'd do this. If it were me, I wouldn't risk it. Purposely trying to tangle my snagged fishing line with my anchor seems like asking for some kind of trouble.
I've fished for sturgeon since I was a kid and I've been able to bring some noteworthy oversized dinos to the boat on 30-50# braid by using the river current and weight of my 16' boat to tire the fish.
I'm not judgin' Yakangler, I'm just sayin'.. 100# out of a kayak is a bit much in my opinion.
