After giving it some thought,  I have to admit that I can see some aspects of, lets say the 12VSX, that could be useful for oversize sturgeon.

With a very large line capacity and fishing in depths up to 100 feet,  you could have a good number of snags / cut offs without worry running short of line as already pointed out.

I also like lever drags if not just for the fact that at a glance you can get an idea of where they are set at.   I don't know how many times I have seen someone get a hook up and others tighten up their drags to winch in their gear to get them out of the way.   When dropping their gear back in, they forget to readjust their drag.  Some may say pointless as they always check their drags, but can't hurt.

With the 2-speed,  your low gear ratio is a bit lower than that of most single speed.    Just as helpful with something as big as a sturgeon as it is with large offshore species.

Pride of ownership is something that is hard to place a value on.   At under $500 bucks, it really isn't that high priced for a reel these days.

Looking at a 12VSX in action, they really do not look overkill size wise.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I also understand that for the most part the kayak fishing community is a pretty frugal bunch. We generally try to make the most of the gear we have and keep expenses low.

Asking which 400 dollar reel will go best with my 500 dollar rod will not bring you closer to most members here.

Hell you gave me a hard time for using a rod I bought on clearance for 130 bucks! :D

well I work hard for my money and if I want to spend it on ridiculously awesome gear then there is no shame in that. I wasn't asking for criticism on my spending habits, just some advice and information on readily available products.

With all the unique details of that rod,  Penn Gold would have looked kind of "blaa" by comparison.
I had to google to see what the Raptorskin looks like ....  It really is going to tie in well with that rod
VERY COOL !!  Even has it's own video on YouTube
