Looking like sunny and the seas not too bad

anyone want to go out with me for RF this weekend

Ideally Sunday AM and Monday AM

This will be my first Depoe Bay trip, but I am very experienced in the salt and have all safety gear.

thanks

Make sure you check the bar restrictions before you launch. The forecast as it stands now would most likely result in a restricted bar.

so not being familiar with OR fishing, and mainly used to the SantaCruz CA area, I would pass on Saturday (wasn't the optimal day  anyway)

but sunday is decreasing with monday even more.

so for you vets is this considered too big to go out?

not stomping on the local knowledge, and thanks.

If they restrict the bar eg 18ft or less etc. you can't go, coasties won't let you, and with 8ft swells its highly likely, as in I'd be surprised if it wasn't restricted.  If its open, the swell height and the period are within reason for someone with plenty of experience (18 sec is a long period) but with that said if it gets bigger or goes pear shaped (wind) on you when you are out there you could be looking at some ugly paddling.  I used to go on forecasts like this but now I just wait for the nice days, oceans not going anywhere ;D

Be very careful with this very long period swell.  A powerful storm in the North Pacific generated it.  These very long period swells have a lot of power behind them and will generate LARGE breaks.  To this point, the Mavericks Big Wave competition has the green light to go on Sunday.  It's the same swells along the entire Pacific Coast.

Good point.  It would be very wise to avoid any of the close in reefs and wash rocks North and South of Depoe with big swells in the forecast.  I'd personally skip the ocean and go fish the fingers in Newport if I HAD to get on the water, should be able to scratch up some black rockfish without to much trouble

thanks all for the the caution and the local knowledge!

I'm gonna be over there anyway, taking the surfboard too, and maybe a different kind of fun is to be had.

Thinking I'll drop some pots in Siletz Bay in the AM and let them soak for the afternoon. If I do worth a darn, I might work some rings Sunday AM. I'm hungry for crab in a big way.

Pulled off the water after dropping pots and saw a yellow prowler on a rack heading S. on 101. Stalked him back to his house and wouldn't ya know, it was OP Cyclone! Nice to meet ya man, hopefully we can get out on the water sooner or later.

Gotta have some lunch, then going back up to Taft to pull the pots I let soak this morning. I'll check back in and let y'all know if Siletz Bay is currently crabby.

Zero crab, and most of the stink pots were reporting the same. Talked with my commie buddy and he said they're knocking them on the outside at 16-17 fathoms. They're close in, just not in the bays.

LB- Sinker and I only got three keepers between two pots and about a 7 hour soak at PC on Thursday.  The cabbies were hungry...and big.

Were you guys about 40 feet deep? Maybe deeper would be better this time of year?

I was just probing Siltetz Bay. 12 fow.

Jammer said "it was super crabby."

Had to buy chowder base from Moe's or else I was going to have to chew my fingernails before the jerk tuna and beets were ready.
