O'Loughlin Trade Shows has generously donated a booth to HOW Portland at the upcoming Pacific Northwest Sportsman's Show at the Expo Center February 6-10.

http://www.thesportshows.com/pnwss/

We have a pretty nice setup that worked very well from the Portland Boat Show. This show is triple the attendance of the Boat Show so we need a little more staffing to cover the booth.

I'd like to have 2-3 folks for each 3-4 hour shift. You'll get a free ticket to that day's show and help us connect with the Vets and make some great new friends.

Here are the time slots we need to fill:

Tuesday 2/5 - iHop, LingBanger, Wobbler
Booth Set Up - 1-5

Wednesday 2/6
11-2 - iHop, LingBanger, Wobbler
2-6 - iHop, Wobbler,
6-9 - iHop, Noah

Thursday 2/7
11-2 - iHop, LingBanger,
2-6 - iHop, Sherminator, Wobbler
6-9 - iHop, LingBanger, Wobbler

Friday 2/8
11-2 - LingBanger, Wobbler
2-6 - Noah, iHop, LingBanger, Wobbler
6-9 - iHop, LingBanger, Sherminator

Saturday 2/9
10-1 - iHop, LingBanger
1-5 - iHop, Noah, LingBanger
5-8 - iHop, LingBanger

Sunday 2/10
10-2 - iHop, LingBanger, Islandson671
2-6 - iHop, LingBanger, Islandson671, Mindy Cockrell
Tear Down 6-7 - iHop, LingBanger, Wobbler

Please reply here or PM me if you're able to help us.

Hey guys

How are you guys for Saturday? The wife and I are thinking about coming down to help out if you need us, if we can find a cheap motel we might stay the night and help out a couple hours on Sunday before driving back to Tacoma.

Dino,

That would be great. Saturday and Sunday will be a zoo, probably 10-20K folks at the show and the more representation we have the better. How's the show going for you this week?

You're welcome to stay with me Friday and/or Saturday night.

Want to offer a great big thanks to Rich Harrold of Kayak Portland for all his support at the Portland Boat Show this month. He's a Navy Vet and with his SLF helped out a lot. He's sent out the following request to all 400+ members of Kayak Portland Meetup Group: http://www.meetup.com/Kayak-Portland/

On Thu, Jan 24, 2013 at 5:54 PM, Richard Harrold <info@meetup.com> wrote:

Heroes on the Water (HOW) serves all military personnel who have been wounded, injured or disabled.  What looks like a day trip of paddling and fishing for wounded vets is in fact something much deeper and long-lasting.

"You have given us a new sport that we can do with our injuries. I yearn for a morning in the woods with my bike, or a long run down our country road ... however, those thoughts have been replaced now by talk of new fishing tackle, rods, water craft, and terrain. You have no idea how mentally and physically healing your program is. Thank you."

—  Michelle, wounded Army officer

There is magic in the interplay between kayak and paddle, water and fish, angler and nature. Is it the kayak's quiet intimacy? The way nature lets you get closer than you've ever been? The fact that the wounds have no sway over the soldier and this moment? It is all of these things coalescing into personal revelations that the wounds may have closed one door, but there are many other, spectacular doors to explore. Life is still good.

HOW lets that moment happen.

We'll try to finalize details after this weekend. Roland Abiva is one of our HOW-NWest Leadership Team members and is interested in coming down to help out as well.

Last call for NWKA volunteers to help out at the PNW Sportsman's Show next week. So far we have zero from NWKA (other than our HOW leaders) and about ten from Kayak Portland (who don't kayak fish and have never met us). Step up people!!

It also gets you a free ticket into the show......we're happy to have any new guys that might just want to bend the ear of old Ling Banger without having to buy him a beer.

I think that the fact that the OP has a 3 names in every time slot may have led people to think that you're fully staffed. My guess it that you, Wobbler, and Lingbanger don't want to staff as many slots as listed, so maybe you should take yourselves off a few slots so people will know they're needed.

I can fill in a bit where needed.  I can't work the weekend, because I am on the road starting Sunday.
I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

Sherm,

You're right, even though I plan to be there pretty much 100% of the time and LingBanger and Wobbler will be there a lot, too, this is a very large show with up to 70,000 in attendance. I'd really like to have at least three or four folks for every time slot to allow us to greet everyone who approaches the booth and also free us up to walk the floor and promote HOW to other exhibitors.

We hope to get some cash and in-kind donations, too, so bring us your gently used rods/reels, immersion gear, etc.

Thanks for your support!

H
