So, do most people on here target Cabezon, or are they typically (happy) accidental by-catch when targeting rockfish/lingcod/etc?  If they are purposely targeted is it a matter of location, or bait/lures?

They are tasty and get you a lot of AOTY points so they are targeted.  A Cabbie won the 2011 ORC.

They are indeed poisonous, just checked in with a Milton Love tome. Apparently they are toxic to most creatures and aren't eaten.

Wow Craig, those are some big strong looking fish. I am really looking forward to meeting one in person some day. I bet that out on the ocean that is one tough fight! Sorry you did not get to score any AOTY points, I guess the key is fish early (in the season) and fish oftern!

I looked around too just out of curiosity. Most taxidermist can do a cab, but it would have to be a custom using the skin off of your fish. Doesn't look like anyone is making cab replica mounts though. Even if they were it would be hard to find one that big. The manufacturers create the replica mold out of real fish. Then when you place your order they sell the cast that was the closest match to your taxidermist request and they paint it according to your pics.
