Weatherbug says 43*F, mostly cloudy, chance of precip 21% at launch time, holding steady all day. MSW says 7 foot at 16 seconds. As calm as it has been in many many moons.

man... why you gotta do this to me.. first salt fix of the new year or spring chinook on a dropping river thats been out for two weeks... This might be a Saturday night decision for me ;D  I guess a lot will depend on the success rate for nooks on Saturday ;)

Tomas,

I think if you can surf in your yak you're going to do just fine.  The inside of Depoe Bay is small.  You'll be in eyesight of everyone on the boardwalk and probably no more than 50 yards from any one of us at any time.  Remember, this is a familiarization.

Successful rock fishing can be accomplished very close to the jetty and definitely inside the headland to headland zone so even if you find you're uncomfortable it's easy to get back inside pretty quickly.

Go here for a map and see what I mean by the headland to headland outside the jetty.  Imagine connecting them with a line from North to South.  There are quite a few reefs inside that line.  In fact, the line itself is fairly shallow and is a productive reef.

Fishsniffer and Nothing,

Thank's for the information, I have driven by Depo Bay several times but never took a good look at the water as I was passing through.  My limited experience on the Oregon coast has be highlighted relentless messy surf.  Sounds like the bay is more protected than I thought.  I am grounded this weekend due to the honey do list my wife just assigned me.  I am currently in high level negotiations with the wife get the time to make it down for the ORC event.

Best regards,

Tomas

Hey FS,

I've received clearance to go.  So I'll see you guys on sun morning.
I'm new to Kayak fishing, but no stranger to the ocean, fishing or kayaking.

Just got off the phone with CG Depoe Bay.  The bar is currently open and their prediction for tomorrow is the same.  Relatively calm.  The bar camera suggests the same.

Can we get a headcount going so we have an idea how many will show?  In the early posts of the AOTY it suggests special points if 10 or more participate.  Me might need clarification on that.

So, if you're planning on coming tomorrow post a message in this thread please.

I'll be launching a little earlier as previously mentioned, but I'll be there.

I'll be there.  If you want to launch earlier I'm OK with that just post the launch time.

Hey FishSniffer,
Are there public fish cleaning stations in the harbor area?

There are both restrooms and a very nice indoor fish cleaning station with water and a garbage disposal!

Thanks Fishman - That's what it's all about.

Currently the bar is unrestricted.  Winds are under 5 mph and the camera looks like there's a small swell over the reef.

This is a GO.  I'll be down there before launch time.  No - not lunch time.  See you all there.

For some reason I got the impression that Depoe Bay fishing was done outside the North and South reefs.  Is it just too shallow for boats, and open game for kayaks?
