Lots of kayaks on the water today which is always fun to see.  Started off catching lots of rockfish on flies.  That came to an abrupt halt when I hooked into a big fish that went under my kayak and I ended up snapping my fly rod in half and the fish got away.

I switched to gear and caught a few under lings before hooking into this beast of a lingcod.  Biggest lingcod so far.  43.25” and 30 lbs. when the wind picked up I decided to call it a day.

That is a VERY nice fish. You only need one of those to fill the freezer...

Great fish.  Loving the pics.  Sorry about the rod, but you're probably going to win a replacement.  ;D  What line wt was it?

Do you usually carry another rod as a backup to the fly rod when you fish the salt?

The one that broke was an 8wt.  I also had a 10wt for backup that I usually am using when targeting lingcod.  It felt like a lingcod on the line when it broke.  I guess I’ll see how good Orvis guarantee is.

Man that is a beast of a Lingcod! Nice job!

Keep up the great fly work and that beauty of a rod from Moonshine will most likely be yours! Hopefully Orvis will cover that rod anyway.

Way to go man, you gotta frame a picture of that one and the one with a 17 inch rockfish wedged in its mouth, the place them proudly on the cabin wall! Congratulations on the ling, that’s karma making up for the rod breakage.

I guess I’ll see how good Orvis guarantee is.

I tested their 25 year warranty last year on some user error damage.  They fixed it for $60 shipping/handling.  Took about 4 months.  I hope now that we're moving past COVID they are faster for you.

That'll do, James.  That'll do.  You definitely deserve the grin on your face.

I'm sorry to hear you broke a rod.  Orvis made good on their warranty for my Recon, but like snopro said, they took their sweet time.

(I think you need a bigger catch bag.)
Everything will be all right in the end, so if it's not all right, then it's not yet the end.
