I plan on going out Saturday at Depoe Bay but IÂ’m not sure on time. A friend and I fished there Wednesday and both got limits. Put in around 10:30 and off about 2. Wind was strong but swell was minimal.

Forecast looks great...ready in Depoe Bay, and prepped for the long commute! (Sorry folks..had to say it)

The ocean is still a bit sloppy right now, but it's improved from what it looked like this morning.  The swell looks to have dropped a couple feet since 0800.  Most of the forecast sites are predicting a decent day tomorrow...maybe not necessarily flat, but fishable and probably nicer than the window we had in early February.

If I can score my lings early, I'll be doing some flatfish drifts just west of the reefs.  I've been missing some pan-fried sole in my life!

I have yet to drift for flat fish...maybe get some pointers from ya and give it a try!

Clayman, I am hoping to do the same thing. What channel does the CG listen to for going thru the hole? What channel will anyone be talking on, if there is anything to talk talk about, fishing wise?

Hoping to do the same as everyone else.  Lings and then flatties.  Hope to learn from the flat fish master himself.

Channel 80 for transiting the hole.  Coast Guard will mostly only respond to you when you're coming back in.  Common misconception that they'll always respond to outbound boats.

Coastal Chief and Zach: yeah no problem on some flatfish tips.  The set-up is pretty simple: a small baitfish or a strip of a larger fish, fished with two 3/0 hooks right on the bottom, will get any flatfish's attention.  Strips of squid and even salmon belly can also work.  Out at Depoe, the sand has a steady slope to it once you pass the rocks.  I usually make my first couple drifts at 50-60 feet.  If I don't have any bites, I'll move ten feet deeper and do it all over again.  My best success is usually somewhere between 60 and 80 feet, and I've gone all the way out to 200 before.  But I usually stay in less than 100 feet, as the sand dabs can get thick once you pass that contour (which may be a good thing if you want to load up on dabs, but I'm usually looking for the 14-20 inch sand sole and petrale sole).

That east wind was a bitch wasn't it?  Haha, I guess if it needs to blow from any direction, then east is the safest.  Good lingcod action this morning, I harvested 29 and 31-32 inchers out of eight landed.  I put in some time chasing flatfish, but it was SLOOOW.  I couldn't even buy a flattie bite!  Picked up a couple kelp greenling and blacks as by-catch, but the flatfish eluded me.

Good to see some familiar faces out there today!

Nice fish Clayman.  We were on the water around 0645 and battled the East wind the entire trip.  We did pull up a limit of Lings around the bell buoy.  Great temp and fairly good swell...but man that wind!!

It was good to see you Chief, and nice to meet up with Cosmo and Clayman. That picture doesn't hardly do your lings justice Clayman, those are some nice fish! I didn't get there until around 9 or 930. Caught 3 keeper ling, kept 2 and decided to quit fighting that wind.

It was great to see you all out there! I caught a few lings, a black rock, a greenling, and a couple big cabazon. I was off the water before 1:00. The two lings that I kept were in the 25” range.
