Hi,

I'm a Danish Biologist/Epidemiologist and I'm fairly new to kayak fishing. I have used a Hobie Revolution for the past 3-4 months and have more less completed the first major rigging project. Regarding rigging, the information, experiences and photos in this forum have been a great help during the last 5-6 weeks. Thanks everybody!

In Denmark my focus is on openwater sea fishing during both summer and winter. I'm also somehow addicted to popping for Giant Trevally in the Indian Ocean (E. Africa and India). An addiction I can feed several times a year during work abroad. Though, the 4500 miles of coast line in Denmark provide kayak anglers with so many obvious possibilities (and challenges). So I hope this is just the early beginning of a long and exciting love affair!

I'm looking forward to learn more from all of you!

Greetings,
Dan

Welcome, it's always cool to hear from the European contingent. Has the ice melted yet? You guys had a tough winter from what I gather.

Yes - the ice is gone now and water temp has raised over the past couple of weeks from 41F to 50F. Here's a (friend's) shot from a lake fishing trip this winter.

Welcome!

Nice cod as well.

Are there many other kayak anglers in Denmark?

Awesome. Welcome. Glad you're here. Putting the north in northwest! That cod makes me want fish and chips in a bad way!

Welkommen! That's probably Swedish or a facsimile.

Thanks, Micahgee!

The cod-from-kayak season is at its peak right now. A trip 1 mile from shore Thursday gave 6 fish above 6lbs - largest was 13lbs. I ended up with more than 50lbs of cod in and beside the kayak (strings). Well - not every day is like that. :-)

I'm not sure about the number of kayak anglers here. The total population of "The Kingdom of Denmark" is apx 5.6 million.  My guess is that 40-50 guys fish on regular basis from Hobie kayaks. The number of other fishing kayaks is probably 10-20 times higher. Beside the numerous fjords and long coast line, we have a number of freswater lakes and creeks with good sized pikes, zander, salmon, trout etc. With 300-600.000 persons with a fishing rod (according to various surveys), I assume that kayak fishing is far from reaching its peak. We have just seen the early beginning of a new wave of fishing here in Scandinavia.

Thanks! However, I'm not sure how the majority of the NWKA members feel in relation to non-US based NW kayak anglers on your forum. ;-)
