My buddies and I are always trying to come up with ways to save mulah so as to survive in the dry world away from our yaks.  Check out these jigs:  http://humboldttuna.com/smf/index.php?topic=546.0

That one made it on the site even before your post. It's a popular one that made it on NCKA too.

Those are pretty sweet, I may have to try my hand at those this winter.  I saved a bunch of cash gearing up for ORC2010 by making my own pipe jigs out of rebar.  One of the great things about using rebar is you can use a chart like the one below in planning what weight jig you are wanting to make.  They sell one and two foot sections dirt cheap at Home Depoe.

I made some knife jigs and tossing irons from those very posts.
They work as well as any $5 jig/lure on the market.
 Thanks eric!

For some time my plan for weighting crab traps has been to tie-wrap 4 18" sections of rebar on the bottom of the 2'x2' folding traps.  Something else on my list for HD.  I'll be back on the water Monday!

that works well for the Danialson's traps.  Give the rebar a good layer of "coat it" rubberized paint (or wrap with old innertube) to keep the rust at bay.  I have found two pieces (20ish inches) are enough for the ocean down here.

I split a 12" piece of 1.5" steel tubing down the center. Laid them down side by side and welded end caps on them.  Melted lead and poured.  Drilled two holes each and zip tied to the bottom of my cage.

Back to topic..I got a handful of knives from the thrift store and am gonna make me somne of those jigs, very inspiring that thread was.

Old window counter weights work quite well for keeping yer traps from walking too.
I have no idea how much they actually weigh, butt they were free!

I just use leaded rope to sink my crab trap!  My old shoulder doesn't want to haul up to damn much weight, but maybe I need to add a little bit to keep it from drifting.

Great.  2x20" and "Coat It" it is.

So 120' of leaded rope doesn't weigh anything?

120 feet does weigh a bit, so I actually cut it to 50' cause I put my traps down at 30' +/-.
