I have a Ram mount for my ff/gps, and i also found a great way to attach the rod holders to the kayak without the little balls sticking up all over the place it is called the  "Gear Trac" by Yak Attak  they allow the mounting balls to be moved around on the trac and to be completely removed if you want. I haven't had a problem with securing my rod holders when I am trolling. and I love the adjustability.  I can have two rods off the same side if i am drifting or one off each side if I am trolling ( this was before I lived in Oregon, where only one is allowed most of the time) .  I love my ram mounts although they are less common than the scotty, and typically a little pricier. Good luck either way you cant go wrong but I truly love the Ram mounts I have on my yak.

I'm pissed at Scotty. I bought a bucket of 0590 clips. Was supposed to be 100 in there, but there were only 98. "I want my two dollars."

I do love that Scotty Orca, if you're not in a Hobie, it's nice to be able to drop the paddle and grab the rod.

RAM on the ff.

I ordered a Milwaukee sawsaw a while ago and it was supposed to come with 2 saw blades. But I found none in the box, so I complained to the company. They sent me a box of 10 blades and a letter of apology. Let Scotty know about your dissatifaction.

I'm currently running all ram for ff and rod holder but I am thinking about adding a scotty rod holder to the mix after some, uh, ball slippage trolling this past week. I do love the gear tracks though.

Yup.  That happens.  But sometimes it is a good thing.  When snagged up, it offers a little extra give.  And when actually hooking up, that give doesn't seem to be enough to lose a fish.  I find it pulls the rod closer to me to allow me easier access to pull it out of the holder.  But I do use a holder with a keeper to prevent unintended "launching".  But this probably falls into the personal preference department.  Yes, sometimes I prefer a little ball slippage.  There, I said it!

Here's a new Scotty product that looks interesting--haven't tried it myself yet. Someone at Scotty has been paying attention to Luther.

My sentiments exactly.  Ball-slippage can be a good thing for all of those reasons.

No comparison..IMO..Ram combined with Gear Trac is far superior to Scotty.
By utilizing the Gear Tracs the Ram balls sticking up becomes a non issue.
