Battery life is really short.  Make sure you follow the update instructions and everything else will be awesome.

I took my brand new Hero 3 white edition on a  PB trip this last weekend. I got home and plugged it in to the computer. I was giddy with excitement...that was short lived. I forgot that my computer is old...the play back was choppy! I don't know much about computers as far as hardware goes but my guess is the video card is not good enough for my camera. I guess I need a new computer. This sport is getting expensive. My car isn't as nice as my kayak!

Were you using the viewer software from go pro?  That can help.  Adlai what speed is your sd card?

I picked up a spare battery. Figured I'd need it.
When you say short, how short? An hour on 720p?

Yeah, I used the go pro editing software. I'm using a 16G sandisk.

At 1080p with 5 second photos, I ran about 3 hours with the battery backpack too.  Obviously that's extreme use, 720 should last longer.  Also, if you're just going to leave it recording the whole time, turn the wifi off.

So I edited a little clip. My previous attempts were all screwed up. I figured out that I must have clicked on the 3D controls...So any preview of clips still look choppy. I decided to upload to YouTube and it looks smooth. Here it is...just a trimmed section with a messy house and a cat.

Cute kitty!   :D  I too am looking for the best spot to mount mine. It seems the best picture puts the cam further away & out of reach so OTW battery changeout will be a pain. +1 on the 32gb card seeming small. 1 1/2 hours ain't gonna cut it. So far I've got the sandisk 32, samsung 64, & have a transcend 64 on order. The smartphone wifi app is great. Playback on my widescreen hdtv with hdmi cable is Awesome! Just got the wristmount for surfing & waiting for some swell.

What kind of kayak do you have? Per a member's suggestion I tried the GoPro mount from this link http://palmettokayakfishing.blogspot.com
It was super simple and it works great. The butt end fits in the rear rod holder on my Outback. I modified on the design and made my own Floaty for the camera and the monopod.
My only problem now is video editing. My computer sucks!

I have a Revo & Adventure. I've tried using the rear rod holder like that link shows. It gives a good view of looking forward but doesn't cover the cockpit, ie: line screaming off reel, well. Also I forget it's back there & forget to hold up fish for the cam to see. I just printed up a label that says "Hold Up Fish" to stick on my fishfinder.  ;D  I hear you about the computer. I'm in the same boat with an old P4 that I'm not even gonna try on. I tried to edit on my wife's I3 & that was too slow so I'm buying a new computer soon.

Hey Mark! I use a GoPro Hero 2. The 3s looks really cool. I like the new shape of the lens on the waterproof housing.
I typically mount my camera behind me and to the right a bit using this setup:

http://palmettokayakfishing.com/PKF-Monopod-Conversion.pdf

I modified it to snugly fit the stock Hobie rear rod holders and the PVC holders attached to my milkcrate. I like this setup because the monopod is telescopic so I can adjust height and angles. I also use the head mount option that came in the GoPro outdoor edition.

I also use A Scotty extender arm with a GoPro Scotty adaptor from my front flush Scotty mounts if I want a front angled view.

I'm also experimenting with options to mount the camera in the mast hole but haven't figured out a good method for that yet.

Paul

This is awesome - I just got a revo over the weekend, been thinking about (the most important accessory), where to put the GoPro; I could rig this up with a monopod I've got sitting around (and never use) and be ready to go.

I also have a nerdy idea swimming around in my head involving a fishing pole holder, a couple ski poles, and some super glue... but will take some experimentation.
