Two pieces of kayak plastic, six inches on the short side and more on the long side, are heading your way by U.S. mail, and should arrive on Monday.  The color matches your kayak pretty well.  Post pictures of how your welding job comes out.
Pete - You rock!  :headbang: Th plastic you sent me worked perfect. Those of you that want to give this a try, make sure you use the same kind of plastic for welding that your yak is made of. I used a small piece of blue plastic of unknown origin & discovered it had a slightly different melting temp & viscosity which makes for a poor weld. The plastic Pete sent me was super linear polyethylene - same as my Cobra & it worked great. Melted together just right. Here's some pics. Did some GoPro footage, but haven't looked at it yet.

Backed the hole w/ stainless steel screen, welded to the inside. That was tricky. (lousy picture)

Not pretty, but solid & effective.

Put a sticker over it and it will blend in even better. Nice job.

If anyone happens upon this post and needs some yellow Hobie plastic, I pulled some out of a dumpster a while back and it's sitting in my garage. I'm happy to share it, just PM me.
