Man, I'd love to give it another go, but kids, mothers day, and yard work will take precedence. But soon...

I may go this Friday or early Saturday. This will be my 2nd time fishing on a kayak...so if you see someone fumbling around, that would be me.

Yeah, I think Whiskey Gulch will most likely be my destination, since it's familiar.  Based on previous comments, it seems there's something up with the road going down to Whiskey Gulch Beach?  Will I need to drive the beach from Deep Creek?  First visit to the Kenai since last summer, any intel on road conditions are appreciated!

Also, how were the bugs last weekend?

Look forward to seeing some folks out there!

Drove it last week--first time to WG. You'll go through Ninilchick, pass Deep Creek, and then (a few miles later) see a sign that says "Anchor Point 5 Mi  Homer 20 Mi." Start watching then for a sign that says "Whiskey Gulch Beach Access.  Just past that sign is a small road--"Whiskey Gulch road" to the right. That goes right down to the beach. If you see the bumble-bee camping trailer on the left side of the road...you've gone too far (I learned...).

I met a lot of our slower drivers along the way, and I stopped in Soldotna for 15 minutes--it took me 4 hours to drive it on Saturday, leaving at 9:30am.

Crv there's usually no bugs there at least not Mosquitos. Sometimes those little black beach flies can get nasty. At any rate I didn't see too many lady weekend.

And the whiskey gulch road is fine. It's just it's usually steep self

Do what you can to get out at very first light. Also know the restricted area markers, the orange square boards to the south is fairly close.
