I've been kayaking and fishing from my kayak for several years but mostly for bass.  Looking to get some info on how to catch a salmon in my 'yak and maybe finding a good spot to bottom fish not too far off shore.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know the salmon are running the Nehalem river and a lot of the other coastal rivers, I'm in Garibaldi if I'm available I have yet to land a salmon. Pacific City has a short paddle to bottom fish , just keep an eye out for post most guys post if there going to go, it's also known as PC.

Thanks, I'll check it out at Pacific City.  I don't know if pulling spinners is viable in a kayak but I guess I'll give it a try.  As for cut plug herring I'm pretty sure it would take a tremendous effort to pull it with a flasher.

A lot of guys on this board salmon fish with flasher & plug  cut herring.  Many do prefer flashers like Konezone because they are low drag.  You may want to check out Spot's articles on the home page about kayak salmon fishing and his KoneZone review:   http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=35

I paddle a Jackson Big Tuna and pulled a kone zone flasher with 3 oz weight and a plug cut herring against the current from wheeler to nehalem no problem and my boat is a tanker.

I really appreciate all the good information!  I'm thinking my goal of catching a salmon in my kayak is getting closer to reality.  Thanks!
