Well, should get my drysuit back in time.  Just called Kokatat.  For some reason my suit never got shipped out after they serviced it.  Given how long it sat they offered free return shipping as compensation, so I'm pretty happy.  Apparently they patched leaks in both feet, both legs, at least one of the arms, the right side and the back.

Glad you got your drysuit back Andrew.
This Saturday still looks crappy to my eyes.
Bill--- that's a very small window...I'll pass on that.

Looking forward to next weeks weather-- several windows might be open.
Being retired -- I can go out whenever I want. But I know that isn't an option for all. So stay tuned..........

We can still make this party happen--- just not tomorrow.

drove to Westport just for the heck of it and it was ugly the whole way down. when we got to jetty  and got up to take a look the ocean side was a disaster but the wind was blowing right over top of the jetty and had the marina side laid down flat. so we launched at half moon bay and headed towards the end. when about a 1/4 mile from end started fishing and instantly caught 2 bass and 1 under size ling and lost another big one and that was when the coastguard cutter pulled up and ordered us in said the bar had a 40' restriction. what a bummer we had the whole place to ourselves and lots of fish. so in being a good example for my 12 year old if that tells you how calm it was we headed back in and watched it get flatter and flatter all afternoon. I'll post picks of fish and flat conditions later.

20-30kt sustained winds, small craft advisory, 40ft bar restriction, 3-5ft wind waves and 6ft at 9sec swell. How was it not a washing machine out there, even on the leeward side of the jetty? I can't wrap my mind around how it was physically possible to do that.

  Hey Seafisher,
Glad to hear that you and your boy made a go of it. And that you got back in without any problems. I kept looking at Westport cams to see how conditions were developing and had a feeling that someone would try going out.
The Coast Guard was out there to protect you from having any problems. Don't begrudge them that. Those guys do some incredible work in extreme conditions. I know I wouldn't want that job.
I have seen the same situation that you described-- nasty on one side and calm on the other. But it can change so quickly. Being 2 miles out at the end of the jetty when the wind changes direction can tax even the best of us. Fortunately-- that didn't happen to you guys yesterday.
Many days (in my youth) I would say "damn the torpedos--full speed ahead.
But I don't do that so much anymore. not only for my own sake, but also not wanting to jeopardize others safety. Getting bounced off the rocks of any jetty will never be a good situation for victim or rescuer.
I'll quit rambling now. see you out there on a better day

Mark it was Nice to get out and sad to come back in early but I have mass respect for our coast guard and what they do. and there is always another day to fish. although there wasn't even a shore break in half moon bay and it got calmer in the afternoon. so my wife and 2 sons spent the rest of the day goofing around town and having fun. I have a video and some pics I'll post later  but am having computer issues right now.

Make sure you check for small craft advisories next time,  they could have issued a citation.  And DWB, it's very common for the leeward side of the jetty to be tranquil, regardless of what's going on around it.

Small craft warning is a single triangular red flag. It will be flying off the tower at Half Moon Bay.
Gale warning is 2 red triangular flags.
 Etc....etc.

Thanks for the heads up Lee
