I know there is a little bit of interest in fishing the Westport jetty on opening day of lings. So I thought I'd get a thread started for those that are considering making that happen.
The tides are ---High 6:44 am @8.3 ft.  Low 2:12 pm @1.1 ft. then High again at 8:51 pm @6.5 ft.

My personal preference is to fish an outgoing tide for a few hours. Hit the low hard and then let the tide push me back toward shore and landing. Some of you might be wanting to get an early start which I think will work out well with the out-going tide being early. And coming in after 2 o'clock will allow the tide to be your friend.

Let's hope the swell and winds will be on our side that day.
Any other comments or questions out there ??? ::)
We have a few days to prepare.....let's make it happen  ;D ;D ;D

Def not going to make opening weekend.  But the following 2 weekends should be a go, weather depending.  And assuming I get my drysuit back from Kokatat in time.  I'd like to hit Westport one weekend and La Push the other.

I'm trying to make out with you guys, but it's right in the middle of my reserve annual tour. Not sure I'll have it off yet. If so I'll see you there!

Sorry mojo, but you're not my type anyhow. Never really been into red heads. Besides Insayn had me use all the hand lotion to waterproof the box of tampons. I'm definitely out if the Jergens is spent!

http://magicseaweed.com/Westport-Surf-Report/310/

This is really not a forecast I'd like to see. Hopefully it will change before this Saturday.

Launching through 4-8' surf can be done but it ain't easy. And it has sounded like some 'new to salt" folks are wanting to get out there. We may have to re-think opening day. A 30 mph wind is nothing to play around with either -- experienced or not.

Will be monitoring the conditions as the week progresses.

edit: they may be another alternative for lings on the other side  8) 8) 8)  just sayin'

That is one ugly forecast.  You are soft selling it mark.  That is the kind of wind that puts in the middle of the channel in nothing flat... yuck.

3 days from the opener for lings and the forecast looks ugly.
I know that a lot of people have to work with only weekends off.
This is shaping up as NOT the weekend to go to the Westport Jetty.
Too big a wind and swell and surf to be safe.

That sucks cause I was getting excited to rip some lips. It is marginally possible that the forecast will change... but I doubt it. There will be better days coming . I will strongly recommend folks not go out in a 5'-8' surf with winds gusting over 35 mph.

If/when the forecast lays down I'd be happy to escort folks that are not familiar with salt water fishing. I'm no "guide" but have fished there some and can maybe be helpful to someone with less expirience.
If we get a favorable day midweek--- I can go out as well.

Sorry guys-----live to fish another day.

Saturday

SW wind 15 to 19 kt, with gusts as high as 25 kt. Rain. WSW swell 8 ft. Wind waves 3 to 4 ft.

Saturday Night

That is the forecast from NOAA for this weekend as of 7:30 Thursday night.
A NO GO in my book.
Maybe I should edit the title  ::)
