The advantage as I see it is the ability to allow your lure and/ or flasher to be well away from not only the weight and attachment, but it also the boat.  Not really a big concern with the kayak but big trout are very finicky.  Perhaps even more important is the ability for the lure to follow every nuance of current to appear as natural as possible.  Sorry but I am not familiar with a standard Slido so I can't t really compare.  I typically use a 20-30 foot leader that once released by the longliner, is effectively zero, and much easier for landing.

The stores that sell longliners are listed on the website included above.

I contacted Steve at Angler Innovations.  He is planning on getting his products set up over at Hoggs Hardcore Tackle in Hillsboro.  Not sure how long it will take, but at least it is closer for us on the west side.  :)
PROGRESS IS JUST BEING THERE!

I hope to get some product in Hogs Jo-Mar soon.  As of last summer I now have product in Wholesale Sports too.  Not all stores took on the LongLiner but I guess in time...  As an inventor the vicarious thrill of other passionate anglers scoring with your invention is a great time.  Fun stuff for sure!  Thanks.

I am anxiously awaiting my Longliner order to arrive to try it out. It's a great idea and looks well designed.  :hello2:

...You can slide the egg weight to wherever you want, pinch the line on both sides  of the egg weight together and tie them together with the rubberband.... Fish hits, rubberband pops, egg weight slides to the swivel.

I'm liking this idea.  Suggest a large bead or bumper between egg weight and swivel.

Trout fishing from the kayak is my primary activity along with kokanee, Bass, and walleye.  This year I will be stepping up to steelhead and salmon on the Snake and Columbia rivers.  I found an article about a device called a "longliner", invented by a gentleman in Boring, OR.  Angler innovations is the name of his company and they apparently can be found in a few stores in Oregon and Washington.  The longliner has the ability to get your lure to great depths with a "leader" anywhere from a few inches to hundreds of feet long.  You clip your weight to the longliner, run the line through the body and clamp it closed.  When a fish strikes the longliner releases the line so it can slide freely as the fish runs.
I have used the longliner with 4 ozs. of lead to target fish holding in 50' of water while using an F-3 frog flatfish and just slammed 'em.  Never could have gotten down there without a downrigger prior to finding this outstanding device.  I have used it with spoons, flies, with and without added flashers and trolls.  Check them out at http://anglerinnovations.com/index.html

Here is an image of the longliner

That thing just blew my mind

I stopped in and bought a longliner at the Sportsman's show.  I like it.  I am a little scared I may loose it, though.  I tried to find one last August for B-10, but didn't know where to look.  Now I do.

Being a fly fisherman foremost, I like to take the look off of a lite spoon and a 2 foot leader and then a wet fly. Wooly bugger is definitely on the list as per INSAYN'S suggestion.
