Lawyer Bob just showed me a nice lil map, that shows the best crabbing to be directly south of the rock, and maybe 1/2-3/4 mile directly north. As for how the crabbing has been, no idea. I would bring a trap if we were doing a full day, but I'm determined to get my first coho...

Mind pm'ing me or posting the map??

It's from an article that's about a decade old, but it might still be useful:

Have any of you been out for salmon lately?  I left all my salmon gear at home, but I saw a sporting good store here in Tillamook I could swing by and grab a couple things if it's been hot.  I generally don't fish salmon down here because I catch so many at home, this is when I target my rockfish and lings usually.

I have not been on the ocean for salmon this year, but yeah, see the Ocean salmon 2021 thread. That seems to be the story up and down the coast for the most part.
Well heck, wish I would have brought my salmon gear now too.  I'll have to swing by a store and pick up some gear just in case I get my limit of rockfish and lings early enough to troll for some hos.

I’m seeing some contradicting information online about parking. Is there still free parking by Pelican Brew Pub and/or can we park on the beach? Or is it really $10-40 now as some claim?

Parking is $10 at all Tillamook county parks.  I saw many tickets issued when I was there a couple weeks ago.  There is extremely limited to non-existant trailer parking, except on the beach.  There are two adjacent lots at Pelican Brewing, the county lot and the Pelican lot.  The Pelican lot is well posted as being for customers only with a time limit.  I don't know about enforcement, but judging by how militant the rest of the place is when it comes to parking I wouldn't want to find out.

Not to beat a dead fish, but is anyone that's going tomorrow interested in a new Cannon downrigger, with line counter?
A day without fishing probably wouldn't kill me,
but why risk it?

Been camping at Cape Kiwanda rv since yesterday, there is an electric billboard saying $10 parking right at the turn in.  I haven't seen any inforcement in the dozen or so trips across the street, but I'm buying a pass and parking on the beach in the morning.  There is a kiosk just to the right of the launch access point.
My wife says you guys are a bad influence with the salmon reports.  We had to swing in to Tillamook sporting goods on the way back from the cheese factory so I could buy a flasher and super bait cut plug since I left all my salmon gear at home anticipating only chasing rock fish.  Hey, I can't pass up a salmon bite if it's hot......So now my plan is to launch at daylight, go catch my lings, secure my rock fish limit, then troll for my salmon limit and be back on the beach by 11:30, easy peasy.

At the kiosk it appears you can pay with card.  Also says does not give change.

Well, I have to consider my first day fishing PC a success!

To get my first ever salmon from my boat was my main goal, so I started trolling almost immediately after getting past the very mellow surf.

About halfway to the rock, I picked up a chunky black. As I passed the rock, I got another.

Lawyer Bob and I proceeded to head due West of the rock. When we were about 1/2 mile past it, I stopped to check my lures, as they had been getting fouled by jellyfish pretty constantly.

I shook the blobs off, and began to redeploy my rig. I had only let out out 10-12 feet of line, when my pole began bouncing around. It was my heaviest setup (Okuma Magda 300), and my drag was set light, but the fish never did take any line, but rather came in quite easily. I must have had it in the net less than a minute after it was hooked. I would have loved a bit more of a battle, but oh well.

We trolled for another hour or so, and things were getting a lil sloshy, so we decided to head back towards shore. I got one other take down, that did not stick. When I got close to the rock, I started fishing big ling lures, with no luck, after probably 30 mins, I switched to my lake rod to try n get some more blacks, and got an underling on my first cast.

Very happy with what I had, and knowing the wind and swell were forcast to increase significantly soon, I decided to call it a day. After I had problem free landing, I looked back at the ocean a number of times while loading gear, and it was dead flat as far as I could see. I coulda/shoulda stayed out longer, to score a ling, cabby or more blacks, but for three hours or so of fishing, I was very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks everyone for the info and advice leading up to today, I really appreciate it!

Congrats SD20R!  I launched at daylight,  started fishing the kelp by the rock, picked up 5 sea bass very quickly.  Put my big jig on and headed West, hooked up on a monster ling my 2nd pass, lost it at the yak trying to get my jaw clamp on it, guessing 25-30lbs.  Nature called and I returned to shore to take care of business.  Decided not to head back out, so headed home with 5 good sized Blacks.  Met Cameron on his way out.  I would have liked to stay and get my ling and salmon limit, but got lazy.  Overall a good day.

Great reports! Congrats on the salmon, Cameron.
