I am off & fishing! We're heading east to the John Day where it's sunny and warm. Come get some!

Brian, are you working this weekend? Sunny skies, light winds...sounds like time to fish !

EObasser,

Nice fish.  Very smart to secure her before taking those photos.

By the way, you really ought to get a hawg trough.   Those measurements based on your paddle are a bit sloppy.  I mean I realize that that fish is probably 20", but your overview picture shows only 17" (yes I know the tail is bent, but you can see the issue).

Brian

AOTY Rule #2 states:
Photographic evidence of fish size (total length for most species, for sturgeon use fork length) must be provided. For sturgeon, in the absence of a photo of the fish against a measuring device, a photo of the fish against an object of known size along with measurement that is witnessed and verified by another person in the pool will suffice.

EOB,
Sorry, but I've got to throw this out there -
So far, with the possible exception of the walleye, the photographic evidence for your AOTY entries has been lacking. Your most recent entry is a 17.25" LM. The only photo attempting to show 'length overall' doesn't because the end of the tail on the measuring device is not in the picture.

The closeup of the end of the tail on the scale doesn't validate anything without a valid 'length overall' photo.

Your camera has an LCD display on the back. My suggestion for C&R bass would be:
1. Immediately secure the bass on a stringer clip.
2. Take a few photos.
3. Place the bass in the water, and review the photos.
4. Take more photos if needed.
5. When confident of good photos, release the bass.

Whether or not this entry remains on the board is someone else's problem, but if it were up to me... >:D

One last question before I get off my soap box; Did you catch this largie in the Columbia? If so, were you above or below McNary Dam?

Anyone else want to touch this topic?  ;)

I would hate to question a participants veracity or have feelings stepped on.. But, I agree you do have a valid point. That reminds me I need to pick up a hawg trough.. It is to bad they only measure up to 30'' ;D

I believe you EO!  You do suck at taking measurement photos but I believe you.

I actually agree with you.  To be honest my bigger concern is releasing the fish unharmed.  Yesterday I forgot my stringer for securing fish so I snapped photos and threw it back.  It wasn't until I got home and loaded the pictures I realized they were terrible.  In the spirit of a good faith competition if you think the evidence is not there and that fish is not 17.25 inches (which was rounded down) then throw it out.  I will catch bigger ;D  I am fishing by myself so it's the only evidence I got.  I know no one on here except Alkasazi has met me yet so I understand your concern but I promise I wouldn't cheat in a competition that requires honesty by all who participate.  I bought a measuring board so the overview shots would be better and in this case it didn't work.  What is the measurement from the edge of a T13 to the other edge of the rod pod anyway (which the picture clearly shows)

Good thing it's not a photographer of the year competition....  Or is it? :-\

No Noggin the Largemouth were not caught in the Columbia they were caught in a pond on the Umatilla NWR.  I have caught a few above McNary dam however and if I had a Washington License I know where to catch big ones below the dam.

On a side note the AOTY really doesn't mean a lot to me so if anybody wants to boost their points come over and I will take you everywhere I caught those fish and you can catch your own. (except Spot he seems like tough competition ;D)

Uh Oh!  I think you woke up the beast Nog........  Something tells me that EO's primary motivation is going to be to beat whatever fish you enter.

EO, you may find me at your door some morning with a bag of springer fillets and my hat in my hand, begging you to train me in your style of kayak Bass-Fu.

If you bring Springer fillets you won't need to beg.  Speaking of Springers the Bass should be feeling a little safer cause they are almost here.

Here's the deal,  we (the NWKA admins) are not going spend my time policing  :police: everyone's photos during the year.  For the most part this is for fun. However, if you end up potentially "in the money" at the end of the year your photos will be scrutinized and entries with unacceptable evidence will be tossed out or at best adjusted to fit the evidence.   For some of you this might mean loosing 1/4" worth or points here or there.

For example.. in EOBasser's case I personally don't doubt that his fish are as big as he claims, however, I would only be able to give him full credit on his 24" Walleye.

I'd give him credit for 17" worth of his larger smallmouth bass (because that's the best the photo shows with that tail flopped down like that)

and no credit on either of his largemouth entries (because neither has an adequate full shot against the measuring device).

It probably doesn't matter at this point because I imagine EObasser is probably going to upgrade his bass anyway and I bet he'll make sure to get the proper photographic evidence when he does.   ;D

Why c&r LMB in Oregon rivers?  ??? They're an aggressive non-native species. Ya'll can do what ya want, of course, but every one I catch out of a river is staying on the stringer (within legal limits).

Take away all those points and I still have a big lead on you noggin :D

Personally I don't take the time to scrutinize anybody elses photos, that stuff is better left for people on IFISH.
hmm, that gets me wondering why walleye pike are in the panfish category? They can grow up to 30 inches & weigh up to 15 lbs. Pretty dang big panfish. I don't have a fryin' pan that big.  >:D

EOB,
I don't have any illusions of grandeur about finishing anywhere near the top in this competition. And, overtaking you this early in a year-long competition would have little value anyway. Think about it, if erasing your lead were my true motivation, Dec. 31st would be the day to highlight issues that might disqualify some most of your entries!

Rather I felt it important to highlight this issue now, because at the end of the year it could easily become the source of bickering and animosity among members. And, like you stated, that stuff is better left for people on IFISH!

So, you're welcome for saving you from lost points at the end of the year.   ;) ;D

Have a great weekend!

- Karl

Thanks,

I'm all better now

I deleted my last post as it didn't come out in print like it sounded in my head ;D  To bad PNW quoted it before I deleted it.  I meant no animosity toward you for highlighting my errors.
