That Mr. Richard would be a Hummingbird Portable.  I picked it up at a pawn shop a few years ago.  The jokes could be endless, what zip code does your sonar have?  If the wife kicks you out, you can always move into your sonar battery box.  Excuse me sir, can you move your sonar screen...its blocking the sun.

;D HAH! yeh, i can just imagine the wisecracks.....

had been thinking about a portable unit, hadnt seen anything that large where i had been looking..have also been reading several accounts that are very much in favor of portable sonar versus more permanent installations , mainly for the longevity of the batteries like you've stated earlier, .. strangely, the writers arent too fond of the OK deck configurations for mounting portables, preferring Cobras and Malibu's instead.. might be a Cali thing since those seem to be the yak of choice there and thats where the writers are mostly fisning out of..

now i gotta find a pawn shop near a marina....... ::)

I had a Cobra Navigator with an A hatch. It as a nice dry hatch and never leaked, but it was a pain to use.  Every time I wanted to open or close it I had 8 toggles to deal with... flip up, twist,  flip up, twist,  flip up, twist,  flip up, twist,  flip up, twist,  flip up, twist,  flip up, twist,  flip up, twist, ... get something,.... twist, flip down, twist, flip down, twist, flip down, twist, flip down, twist, flip down, twist, flip down, twist, flip down, twist, flip down!

I have two of them on my Cobra XL. The rear hatch is usually filled with my PVC kayak cart and wheels and I left the dogs intact. The front hatch I'll access on the water and I unscrewed all but three of the dogs and put them back on rotated a 1/4 of a turn. That leaves the handle in the flat position unlatched (and latched in the normal open position). The front and two corner latches remain unchanged. To open the hatch you only need to open the front latch. Still seals really well and has kept the inside of the hull dry even playing in the surf.
