I'm glad you were able to get your pots back.  The crazy powerboaters and fog made me a bit nervous by the end of the day.  I enjoyed the opportunity to go out with you guys and put a few faces to names, and enjoyed the apparently contraband dungie I got out of the day.  I'm still pursuing the elusive first kayak salmon and definitely have a lot to learn yet.

Those Edmonds marine sancturary regulations make me a bit worried about launching with a pot from any of of the beaches that are part of Seattle's marine preserve.  Thankfully there are a few good alternatives launch sites I've found, but has anyone run into any issues with these beaches?

I also noticed those comments from the other fishing site. I think those posters have a dislike for kayakers. Funny how he mentioned "motoring slowly through the BUNCH of kayak fishermen" without mentioning other boaters and crab pot buoys that he had to weave through or ran over. Or how about just holding position...dumb ass!

Zee forgot to mention that the beach-licking-boat was previously on a collision course with Rich, then another boat, then finally licked the beach. Later in the afternoon, the same boat tailed me at a close distance...then circled me when I had a fish-on....unbelievable!

Also, another boat trolling snagged a crab pot. We watched the buoy as it followed the boat...

I think the pinks bring out the worst of the pbs.  I fish the water around Edmonds and south often and for the most part the pbs and I have co-existed well.  However, last weekend an a-hole power boater trolling with plenty of warning and after waving to me and watching me casting to my bow for a few minutes STILL cut across my line and snagged my buzz-bomb with their down-rigger.  I insisted they pull the down-rigger and free my lure.  They did.  Despite their deliberate actions they did not apologize and instead seemed annoyed.  Other than the sea tug and the oil barge, and the speed demons who annoy everyone not just kayakers, that has been my only negative experience.  I had one guy last winter during a rain squall yell from the back of his boat, "You're my hero!"  I would have felt more heroic if I'd caught some keepers.

FYI. After you all left with the thick pea soup and crazy, dangerous pber action,I still had to retrieve my 2 crab pots and my gps went t... up. Finally found and when I beached at Marina park I was approached by a park ranger who was going to cite me for the D. Crab I had aboard. I pleaded my case and thought legal
marked on the punch card, etc I was "violating the Edmonds Marine Sanctuary regulations". In a nut shell:
You can't beach fish or shellfish at Marina Park. Anyone know about these regulations? Anyway, sweet talked my way clear of being cited pleading ignorrance(totally true).
Was great to see a few of you hitting the Pinks with i think one triple header. Jereme held a hot hand for a while as did kykfisher. Zee could sight down those bugger's sure as Daniel Boone and be on them
lickety splitsville. And then there's me. I had this rod and reel at the start of the trip but not at the end.
Stupid animal trick #7. Enough said. guess I'll have to upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea you couldn't beach fish at the marina park beach. I read that you couldn't fish the waters around the pier except for from the pier and I thought the marine sanctuary was north of the ferry. I won't be goin back there - bummer! That's the closest launch to home:(

Are we sure the park ranger has it right about Marina Park and landing your catch there?  The public fishing pier is right there along the same waterfront and you sure can land fish at the pier.  There is a boat ramp in the Edmonds Marina and people bring in their catches all the time.  Why not launch from the marina?

I have my PB moored on 'D' dock and have seen many expedition kayakers launch from the dock before you get to the gas dock.  The marina is managed by the Port of Edmonds and is considered one of the best marinas in the nation.
I would check the regs for the park area south of the marina.
If you do launch from the boat launch dock, you can bring your catch in BUT you CANNOT clean your catch within the marina.  I would also check with the guys at the marina office.

Wednesday, 8/31 the action was a little slow.  Despite the calm winds forecast the wind was from the south at about 8-10kts from before dawn to about 10:30.  By noon it was flat.  The early winds caused a lot of chop which made casting difficult.  Te wind also seemed to drive the fish down, so after an hour or so of casting I switched to trolling, then alternated every hour or so.  Finally a small pink hit on a buzz bomb at 11:15 am and was landed.  Also landed a 16" pink which was so cute I released it.  Had another to the boat and lost it.

I was on the water for the entire tide cycle from high to low and beyond.  At about the slack around noon a few jumpers appeared, then nothing.  Came in at 2pm - 8 hours on the water.

Early in the morning while the wind was still ripping, a guy in a pb with some buds shouted, "You're an animal!  It's cold!".  I shouted back, "This?!  This is warm.  Come out in November."

Of course this morning the water looks perfect.

I thought there was a launch at the marina which is why I was confused. maybe you can't beach fish at the beaches but the marina is okay. I'll definetly stop by the marina and get the details. I would hate to loose my closest access to the salt. It doesn't seem right.

I was out from the marina on Monday evening (after having loaded my gear for Sunday morning's event) and also found slow fishing. Trolled around with buzz bombs, casting when I saw jumpers (which were few and far between), but didn't hook a pink.
