I'm trying to scoop a Hobie Outfitter for our HOW outings. It's listed for $1300 on CL. If a dozen guys chip in $100 with me we can grab it. Let me know ASAP.

I'd be more comfortable making a donation after we knew exactly what type of boat will work best for the events. I would think a tandem would not give a person as much of a sense of independence than a single boat. Plus I think we won't have any problem getting people to donate their boat/spare boat for the day.

I have to agree with Noah.  I do not think that we will be short of boats. Let's get a few trips under our belts before we start purchasing the bigger items.

+3.  :)  Also, I have heard the Outfitter is a wet ride for the front person.  Of course, it is a water sport, but...

The outfitter is a wet ride for the first person.   I have one you can borrow if you want.  Let me know when the first event is and I will get what I can from Next.

Thanks for the input guys, sounds like we have lots of offers for yaks so we just need to line up the vets. Still expecting help from the VA in connecting with their recreational therapists from our last meeting.

The Outfitter was sold to the first guy who got it on the water.

We're a brand new chapter, our mission is to take wounded warriors kayak fishing. We work with the VA to connect with the vets part of their recreational therapy programs.

NWKA has two groups, one in Portland and the other in Seattle. Both are new and we're very excited about the opportunity to serve our heroes.

We will post our events as we plan them so others can join us.

EA,

We'll keep you in mind to join us when we take some vets out in the PDX area.

We need your help! The most important thing for us is connecting with local Vets who would benefit from our activites. We want to start with one or two vets and get them out on the water for some kayak training and fishing. As we continue to build our volunteer base we will plan larger events. If you know a vet, please show them the video and ask if they'd like to connect with us. Have them email: Portland@HeroesOnTheWater.org or call me at 408-966-9682.

My wife is a mental health counselor, specializing in post traumatic stress, and has many veteran clients.  We've discussed your HOW chapter here in Portland, and she thought she might have some clients who might be able to benefit from what you are doing.  Before she passes this along to any of her clients, I thought that I'd make sure that the above contact information is still correct, and that there are not problems with her spreading the word in this way.

Also, I'm pretty new to kayak fishing - only really started this summer.  Will be looking to help out with future activities...

Hey Sam. The info above is current. Are you free Saturday? You should come fish the Next Adventure bass tournament and meet the gang. No bass fishing ability required :) Let us know if you can make it and we'll let you know where the launch is.

Sam, thanks for thinking of HOW, we'd love to meet with your wife and address any concerns and ideas. I've sent you a PM with my contact info.
