It's not a dry top per say but I have a rain coat that I use it's light weight and stays dry in the heaviest down pours plus the neoprene chest waders , I may drop in from the dock at the old mill Rv park it will be a bit farther to paddle but in and out will be easier.

Just so we know I'm taking advise , I just got done tying a 5 lb weight to the cheap crab pot ,loaded and checked all my rubber fish and jig heads, put my extra paddle in , tied leashes to all my gear ( been reading a lot of lost items from my yak post) got bags for things I don't want wet and made sure two people know the game plan. SOOOO any more pointers or tips will be taken very seriously , and is 5 lbs enough it didn't feel that heavy putting it in the subaru ?

I've never had an issue with 5 lbs. one more thing to consider.  The rain jacket won't keep you dry or warm if/when you hit the water. All of us have ended up in the water at some point and it will be extremely difficult to get back in if you're wet and cold. Those layers that keep you warm will act as a sponge and add a good amount of weight to your body, making it further difficult to renter the kayak. Each man is his own captain, but you should fully understand the risk of what happens if you hit the water. A dry top and a VHF are a great investment for next time. Tight lines and be safe!

This is probably a better idea. That's a really good launch spot.

5 lbs will be plenty for a crab trap as long as you don't drop it in a high-current area.  If you do drop it in a high current area, what will likely happen is that the float for your crab trap will dip under the water from the force of the current and you won't be able to find your pot until the next slack tide provided you let out enough line.

I'm heading down on Friday for crabbing and Rockfish.  Work got in the way of getting there today.  I will drop two pots on the way out to the jetty.

Love the Berkley swim bait that was posted.  Haven't seen those before. Looks awesome.  Anyone know if Fishermans Marine carries them?

Low tide at Girabaldi is at 8:34am.  High tide is at 3:25. Any thoughts on when to get in the water to ride the tide out?

Thanks.

If I was doing that trip on Friday I would launch at about 7 or 8 and let the current take me out to the jetties.  Launching at that spot by the R.V. park would probably be the easiest way to go.  I'd fish/crab until about 2:30pm and use the last little bit of flood current to make my trip back to the launch easy.  I would recommend not going very far past the bends of the jetties, right around Barview if you haven't had much experience in Tilly Bay.  Things can get pretty gnarly once you get further into the straight section of the jetties towards the jaws.

You're welcome.  Be sure to pay close attention to what the current is doing.  If you're out fishing the jetties and you notice that the current is getting really slow or even stops earlier than you expected, it's important to pack up and head in quickly.

Side note - I usually launch at the main marina boat ramp. What're the logistics with the RV park? Less expensive? Less of a hassle?

I checked this place out a few months ago and as far as I can tell there isn't a charge for parking/launching.  I think the marked spot on the map is some kind of park.  One could  park there after setting up their kayak and gear down at the end of the road.  There is a rocky/dirt bank that a kayak could slide down or be carried over pretty easily.  This would avoid the slog through the mud from launching at the coast guard station at low tide. This spot also provides very quick access to the ghost hole when the salmon are running through in the fall.

Thanks, Rawk.  Yeah, that's just across the marina from where I put in. It'd be nice to avoid the $3 fee, as well.

Newbie report: my arms were a little sore from the fight against the wind, got jiggy with it on the rock wall by crab harbor no luck, did drop my pot by channel marker 13. I didn't want to venture out the jetty alone, took off the rain coat at 9:30 it was pretty hot out and the water wasn't too cold I had to keep dunkin my feet and splashing my waders.

Since I live at the old mill no charge for me although the docks are pretty well shot to sh?t , I don't see them charging a guest of mine it's about a 10-15 min. slow paddle to the docks from here, the bad thing is that when I turned around to get in my cooler for my morning energy bar to find it and my crab gauge were not behind my set????? Then it hit me I left it sitting in the back seat of the wife's outback in the parking lot... DOOH so I called my neighbor and son they lined it off the dock around 11 for me , BOY WAS THAT POP COLD AND GOOD !
All together not a bad day I fresh rinsed everything and one sitting in the AC
