I don't leash my rods but rather use leashes on a bunch of other stuff: net (the retractable 10' dog one works great on nets), scissors, bonker, walkie talkie, hook remover, leatherman, paddle, mirage drive, GoPRO...

  damn Roger--- only 9 leashes ??? ::)
  I hope they all have quick connects of some kind.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

and I needed them all today because "bad decision rogerdodger" had a yard sale on the Umpqua just up from Scottsburg, rolled my PA12 trying to go up some rapids that I should have left to the jet boats...lost my favorite chinook rod/reel and the Scotty holder it was in plus now my $49 'disposable' smarty phone is just a neat water toy but I came home with everything else...thanks to "good decision rogerdodger", my Kokatat Angler suit kept me dry and safe in the cold swift whitewater...I am heading back first thing in the morning to get after the springers that I should have been focused on today instead of being overconfident in powerful whitewater...cheers, roger

After my last phone took a swim in the Willamette, I purchased a waterproof phone case on Amazon for $10.  Clipped it to a T-Rein zinger, and now its in my PFD, accessible for taking pics.  The plastic dry bags are great for wallets, licenses and car keys, and stored below deck.

6 boats fishing above the bridge (including 2 jets anchored just above the rapids that I swamped in), I didn't see any fish hooked but I saw 2 roll near shore and marked a couple of big fish on the Elite-7 (on my test run in that stretch on March 6 I marked no large fish, just lots of bass)...cheers, roger

Just last week I finished making several different sizes the same as rockfish using .105 weed whacker line. Now trying them out to see how the 'coil' lasts. It really boils down to what works for you and your yak. I'll report back later on what I think of this homemade leash.

Here's a way to determine if you have a good rod leash:  If you don't notice that your rod is leashed when you're using it, it's a good rod leash.  My retractable dog leashes pass that test.  I use them on my rods and my nets.  Some prior efforts at leashes were pains in the butt, and didn't pass the test.
