Unless you are in AK and can keep more than one fish I'd just leave the poon head in the fish.

Ya but make Dang sure if the halibut flops out, the rope and buoy also fall out. A pissed off halibut secured to your kayak via few feet of rope can get ugly.

Halibut rodeo anyone? 'Poon a fish over 50 pounds and you have to hold on to the rope as long as you can.   Or better yet, dry suit test. Be the buoy. Instead of a buoy, attach a dowel to hold on to. I think typical life jackets are 20 pounds of flotation  with a person similar when I hear of diving belts.  That's between a A1 and A2 and I've seen both get taken under.  Oooooo....THAT'D be a video!!!!

Rudy--- you said you wanted to try some "new" adventures this year. Go for it.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

If you are worried that the halibut in the back of your boat may come back to life then just hog tie it. Run a rope from the tail to the head and the fish can't move ... problem solved.

Personally I've never had a fish move after bleeding,  let it hang for 5 mons or so then brain spike.

I've lost one "dead" halibut off my kayak.  I've seen many others come to life but now that I think back it's always on powerboats where they are "bled" out of the water meaning they aren't really fully bled.

Once bled in the water for a few minutes, I haven't had one move very much.

I'm going to try and go a step further this year. Carry a guitar string and try inserting it into the spinal column after bleeding. I hear it shuts everything down.   Seems like a lot of hassle though.

I have.  But not ballistic or anything like that.  Certainly need to make sure they are secure.

I think Bill and I were talking about something similar, I can't recall exactly, but it was enough for me to invite Bill to Kodiak this year, mostly because I wanted to be witness to the shenanigans.  Go Bill, Go!

Oh yeah!!!! +100000000. Go BILL go!!!!

Not sure about the Spring Kodiak trip. I had a few issues that's going to make things tight  including a move out of the current house. But if Bill's coming in the Fall, I'm not going to miss that!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone used a small magnet to keep the harpoon tip from sliding off of the harpoon? I have been experimenting with this idea in my new harpoon it's working flawlessly.
Take the sticker off your hat Bend the rim and go fishing!
