I'm fishing AOTY for the first time. I think overall things are pretty well thought out and I haven't come across anything that stood out as odd, as far as points and rules.

There is one thing that struck me: There's no category for Brown Trout?  There's one for Rainbows, Cutts, Lake, Dolly (Brook), Bull, etc.  Seems like an over sight since there are so many good brown trout fisheries in the PNW.

Rule Clarification: Can you submit a fish for a side-challenge and a different one for the overall competition.

For example could I catch a smaller Smallmouth Bass on a fly and also submit a bigger one caught on gear?

Welcome to the fun!

We've talked about adding Browns in the past but we generally try and add fish that are available in most areas of the PNW. I don't believe there are a ton of opportunities in Oregon for browns. I think that's why is decided to not add them but I don't recall exactly. We'd be open to exploring the option for next year. Bump the subject in December or send one of us a PM.

Long as questions are being asked, cutthroat, does this include sea run cuts or just fresh water cutthroats?  Figure you're talking about the fresh water ones for the same reason as the brown trout.

Thanks
John

I've always thought we should add Browns also. I've never caught one, but have really been looking for an excuse to go catch one. I thought there were a lot of places to get them in Oregon. Probably all east of the cascades though. East lake, paulina, Miller, Crescent, and wickiup, along with the Deschutes, Owyhee and snake rivers. Just a thought, and its up to you guys of course. We will bring it up after this year.

Any cutthroat you can legally retain.

This is why it's very important to fill in the water body field of where you catch your fish.   This information isn't shared publicly, but it helps the AOTY judges determine if your catch is valid according to all the rules.

When I catch something besides a cold I'll certainly fill in the location, thanks for all the work the admins do keeping things straight.
