What were the conditions at sunset bay for a kayak fisherman, then??  Fishable outside the bay?
With wind from the south or much of any southern vector (central coast) the conditions turn sour.

Sunset is a much longer drive for me, but I'd like to find a good enough forecast to try.
Thanks
8am Friday:

NOAA NB airport:  7mph SSE
MSW CoosBay (off Bastendorff):  19mph 171 degrees
Windyty off Bastendorff: 10kt (11.5mph) 160 degrees

FYI-  NOAA has a 'data bouy' with anemometer near the mouth of Coos Bay, based on location digits, it is at CoosHead near the CG tower.

I use NOAA Marine Point Forecasts and select the exact coordinates for where you'll be fishing.  The summary description provides surrounding marine conditions, and not just the "surf report" from magic seaweed.  Stormsurf is another weather tool for longer range conditions.

I ignore the surf part since that isn't a factor in launching out of Sunset Bay.
If you stay in the inner bay, that's probably okay. I've seen it get big. Before launch, watch for breaking sets across the mouth of the inner bay.

If you haven't made the trip from Sunset to Simpsons Reef before, go with someone who's has. Don't go alone & have a radio with you.
