Yeah, I'm trying a new tactic this year. Rather than talking smack and getting shut out, I'm going to try self depreciation and see if that changes anything for me karmically.

Keep up the smack talk but go out of your way to help others out.   ;D
Worked for me when I took you and TxPaddler Springer fishing last April.  Lol!
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Any more info? Are any people actually going?

I've got a team of 3 or 4 headed up from Seattle - I'm trying to figure out what ferry to make reservations on right now - anyone else make their bookings?

- Matt

I have no idea.  May want to call the resort to see if they set anything up.

Hey Matt,

The best way to get to North Island is always through Nanaimo by way of Tswassen, IMO.  If you happen to have a load of kayaks that goes over 7' and you are leaving from somewhere south of Edmonds, then you can save some money if you cross from Edmonds to Kingston and then use the Coho (Blackball Lines) out of P.A.  If you go that route, you will ABSOLUTELY want to have reservations in place.

I have extra kayaks that I can loan out if you foresee a need.  You'll have to get them there yourself as I won't be making that trip this year.  Just got a passport this summer for this kind of thing but then I also got laid off 2 months ago with no job sightings at all on the horizon.  So I'm grounded from high dollar trips involving ferries and cash outlays.

Let me know if I can help out.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.

To All headed to Moutcha,

A word of caution regarding fishing the bay.  At last years tournament we had several incidents of motor boats deliberately running their downriggers over a kayaker's line while the kayaker was working with a fish.  When I first heard about it, I thought that it must have been an accident.  Hey, it can get crammed with a lot of boats in that bay, especially from the power boaters perspective.  But then on the second day it was done to yours truly and witnessed by several kayakers around me.  It was done in a way that could not have been mistaken for an accident.

We have a whole new set of owners there this year.  I'm hoping that some of you might mention this to them so that they can also be a little vigilant.  I can't imagine what they can do about it for us, but if they have ANY pressure or leverage that they can exert, then they sure need to bring it on if any of this goes on again this year.  It could easily be that it was all perpetrated by just one individual jackass, but still I can tell you that it pissed me off badly enough that I'm on the fence as to whether I'll EVER show up to one of these Moutcha tournaments again.  And I used to go every year, year after year.

Hey, it certainly doesn't involve me this year... so whatever you guys think is the proper thing to do.  Or not do.

Best of luck to all of you,

Fishin-T

I just booked all the details today. A campsite for the three days, a ferry from Tswassen to Nainaimo (Friday at 3:15 pm, returning Monday at 5:45 pm) and bought the fishing license, etc.

I'm dragging a bunch of newbies up, so it should be fun. Looks like five of us in two cars...

The fishing report was that the fish are in the bay!! Yey!

No demos this year.

About 25 people registered! Despite lots of initial uncertainty about the event, looks to be working out. Weather looks good too.

See you this weekend?

- Matt

Moutcha report.
Well thanks guys. If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have herd about this event. approx 20-25 people registered, not bad considering off and on again.
good contingent off self powered craft including kayaks, canoes, float tubes, row boat and pontoon boats.
largest fish was caught 1st day and over 28lbs.
 lots more in 20-25lbs class.
fishing was hot 1st day and slowed 2ND day and drooped right off after that I stayed a extra 2 days, (sea lions showed up)
Managed to land 2 fish 1st day lost 4 at kayak. borrowed net 2ND day and landed 3 fish for 3. 10,18 and a monster but was fowl hooked and didn't count (hell of a Fight).
one guy hulied while landing a fish and watched power boater hook fish and jump in water and fight and his parter net it from water, bloody funny!, great respect from power boaters, no problems that i know off.
Resort ran a good event, numbers were a little low but to be expected I guess.
Weather was great, was there 6 days and only a couple off hours rain. hot and calm with usual afternoon sea brease blowing in.
Managed 3 fish on tomic plug using torpedo for depth and rest jigging.
Will attempt to get results from moutcha bay as am heading back mid month. hopefully coho will be in bay.
About 20 fish weighted 1st day, cut off time was 4:00, lots off fish landed in evening as bite was hot,
 another 15 approx next day.
got lazyest fishman award, (gotta love jigging side saddle in a sit on top) and sportsman.
anyway enjoyed myself met a couple of locals to hook up with and even landed a sprat or two.
found some steelhead in a local river and invested some time into them, none caught but its a disease. (I will be back.)
 sea you guys Next year.
