Zee, in terms of getting down to the cutts, couldn't a guy try trolling in-line weights?
Yeah I guess so. But the more weight you put on your line is going to deaden the action if you hook up. These are generally small-ish fish so 1-3 pounds with some of the largest around 6. So the lighter your gear the better. When it comes to fishing deep it's really important to be able to get your gear to the exact depth where the fish are. If you're 10'-15' above or below where the fish are you're gonna miss most of your opportunities to hookup.

You called that one right - late afternoon at that.  Looks like there's a window of opportunity opening up Tuesday and Wednesday though.
Yep, I'm hoping Wednesday will be the day. Since the weather is just all over the place recently the weather radio is gonna be sewed to me ear.

Thanks. Since I am interested in customizing my kayak more and more for fishing, I have a few questions.

What kind of downrigger do you recommend? Set-up options?

I am also looking to replace the factory seat in my Tarpon. Any recommendations? Sounds like a seat upgrade is the way to go. Finally, I notice my current life vest has too much padding in the back for how high up the Tarpon (or any sit-on-top) kayak back rest rises...any recommendations on great sit-on-top kayak life vests?

Thanks!
John
