I've got Sunday the 22nd free and the plan is to downrig the sound if weather cooperates. Tides look good to go from O'dark to about 12. If the weather there is no good but doable at Lake Washington then I'm thinking to downrig for some Cutthroat. If anyone's interested come on down.

If weather permits I'll join you.

PS, Sorry about forgetting to call you about the photos. Is it too late?

PS2, Do you still have that extra DR that will work on my Outback?

Hey guys,

Moved here from Minnesota about a year ago. I've always fished from canoes. This summer my wife and I picked up a couple kayaks and I've been fishing from a Tarpon a bit the past couple months....even managed to mount a Scotty rod holder.

Anyway, while I've mostly been chasing salmon from shore in the rivers lately, I live close to Lake Washington (east side).

Any tips for targeting cutts/ rainbows on Lake Wash? How good is the fishery? Good shot at catching fish by trolling out from downtown Kirkland towards Yarrow Bay?

What depth and presentation do you recommend?

Love to hear any details you were willing to give me.

Thanks,
John

It's a really nice fishery and there's a lot of information about it out there. Lures vary by person and go from my favorite of a k5 kwikfish to a cut plug orange label herring. Wedding rings tipped with a worm is a LW standby. The area you're talking about has some good fishing but to get into it you'll need a downrigger. This time of year the cutthroat will run 35'-60' down. Check the downrigger article on the home page for more.

Tomorrow: Windy with rain showers. High 47F. Winds WSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 90%

Bryce,
Based on this forecast...think I'm gonna work on a project for my wife tomorrow.

I need to use a furlough day this week, so if there's a break in the weather can you go out?

Yeah weather forecast changed again. :( Winds should be nuts most of the day. I'll be watching what happens with the weather and if possible making a break for Lake Washington. Might give another try later in the week too.

I'd go, are you going to decide in the morning?
Today it was supposed to be stormy and ended up being pretty good, so who knows?

The storm ended up coming in late. There's a Wind advisory all of tonight and they're calling for it to ease by morning. Which will mean it will by afternoon.  ;) I'll have to check conditions tomorrow.

Rain has blown out of the picture here at the Beach. I see blue sky out my window right now.  Wind is gusting from the West, 30 to 50+mph. Supposed to lighten up by afternoon. I'm going for a walk on the beach, to see what blew in with these strong West winds on the back of all that storm surf. West winds can sometimes produce the best beach combing...more stuff seems to blow in.

Looking at the weather forecast, I have cancelled any plans to do any yak fishing over the holidays, or in the immediate future. Weather forecast looks wet and ugly for Black Friday in the Sequim area (retailers are probably rejoicing), and I'm probably not taking a boat with me, unless the forecast changes for the better and gives some hope. I'm hoping for some light winds and "no rain in the forecast."

I think bears have the right idea!

Hey Yakker,

We moved here from Minneapolis, but I grew up in SE Iowa (Iowa City).

My favorite fishing in MN is up in the Boundary Waters wilderness in the northern part of the state.

Zee, in terms of getting down to the cutts, couldn't a guy try trolling in-line weights? I do a lot of wilderness canoe fishing for lake trout in Canada, and we routinely fish a few ounces of weight or more to get down to 35 plus feet. I am intrigued about checking out the downrigger option sometime though. Were you gonna hit blackmounths today if you fished the sound?

Thanks,
John

Sounds like we need an into post from you! ;) I have a special place in my heart for the Land Of A Thousand Lakes. I go there every year with family from Iowa and plan on doing a Boundary Waters trip this next June so I'll probably have some questions for you!  ;D

You called that one right - late afternoon at that.  Looks like there's a window of opportunity opening up Tuesday and Wednesday though.
