I didn't say this was up to a vote.  But if someone has a good idea I'm willing to listen.

Yeah, yeah, the whole walleye thing is my fault and I agree...it should be separate.  Maybe drop panfish next year in favor of walleye.

Why drop the common fishery that pretty much everyone has access to in favor of yet another extremely limited fishery?

As for the rockfish/cabezon thing.. they both have a similar max size and you really fish for them both at the same time.  The trick is we were trying to keep it to just 10 target species/species groups.

Some of the other ideas on this thread are interesting and worth considering for next year.  We'll let you know what we come up with.  Meanwhile keep the feed back coming.

I didn't hear the reason why 10 target species/species groups was the chosen number?
Does it make a difference whether it was 10, 12, or 20?

Also, if you can't split cabezon's from the other rockfish, why have small mouth and large mouth bass split.
Granted, I just started fishing for all these species this year, so if there is some logic behind it, I haven't bumped into it yet.

You want to have a full card for top entries. Something attainable to shoot for. If you have no limit then you can get a small fish of each category and beat out someone who's got lots of big fish in his card. AOTY should be about how much of an angler you are and not drive by fishing. At NCKA we ran the AOTY for a few years and 10 seems to be the mark that, if you apply yourself, you can get to.

You can't please everyone all the time.

But you will caught if you're pleasing yourself all the time.   ;D

2010 suggestion: Keep the card at 10 but don't drop panfish (it's good points attainable for everyone). Put walleye in a separate category. Consolidate LMB & SMB. Although I don't think Cabezon & greenling (http://www.dfw.state.or.us/MRP/finfish/sp/fish_list.asp) are technically rockfish, it's ok with me if they're in that category, although greenling is more panfish size than walleye.

My apologies to all in the AOTY for my lack of participation this year.
Many Family issues and lack of work and $$ and time and......
I am however glad my entry $ goes to the great group of folks we have here at NWKA.
I am entering next year though, with hopes of more chances to fish. ;D
Thanks for the wonderful job Y'all did with the event!  :-*

Ditto here----retired in May and hardly fished all summer and fall!!!   Took a fishless friend out for pinks when they were thick and had a ball, one day hooked 14 and landed 3!!   But still have a few major   home/garden/shed projects to accomplish, then will be fully ready to fish---and am glad to donate my AOTY$$  to the cause.  Happy New Year to all!!!  See you on the water come spring...
